Spanish is a beautiful language and I regret it very much, that I can't speak it. When I hear somebody who speaks Spanish, it's like music to me.

sometimes I don't mind, I am a spanish IV student and most of the time people say hola to me. Automatically I am in spanish "mode" and I think ¿hola como estas? That is a real indicator if you know the person you are talking to speaks spanish.

What for ?
They scream that to the top of their lungs for everybody to know. They range from throwing the KKK towards you to call immigration and make you arrested.
For them it is a mortal insult
To make things more interesting, when yanks visit other countries where english is not the official language, like France, they expect that people speak english

I have found that a lot of monolingual people are suspiscious of people speaking another language around them. It makes them feel excluded. Especially when you look over at them and giggle while you talk.
On the other hand, I have also found that when people discover yo comprendo español, or Ich kann Deutsches begreifen, or comprendo l'italiano, they get paranoid and think I am listening in on them. But I don't find so many problems when people discover ç§ã¯æ¥æ¬èªãç解ãã.

If I travel to a country where the main language is Spanish, I am fine with them talking Spanish. But if a family moves to a country whose main language is English and they speak Spanish among themselves and with their friends all the time, it would be a matter of disrespect towards the hosting country (and its citizens).
I do not speak in my mother language with my parents but in the language of the country where they raised me. None of us ever had a problem with it.

It depends. If I travel to a country where that is the main language, I have no problem with it. I don't care if people also speak it among themselves. What I don't like is when they use it in the workplace as an obvious attempt to exclude others who don't lnow that language. It's very rude.
