If the item will just be brought in through the front door and left there without the delivery man having to do anything else.

Yeah, I think you'd have to pay him something. I think the basic rule is that you have to grease the palm of anybody who might have to serve you again and have a good enough memory to take advantage of the opportunity to give you crap service the next time. Plus physical labor sucks, you've gotta hook'm up with something.

Well, it all depends on their service. If they were nice, courteous, and got the job done well and efficiently I would definitely give them a tip as a way of thanks. However if they were rude I wouldn't give them anything. Also if they damaged any furniture I would be calling the moving company for a partial refund. XD Either way it all depends on attitude and service. I moved once and the building I moved into had no stairs (since it was only about 4 stories high) but it would still be a lot if you were hauling up furniture. So, I gave them each a small tip as thanks for bringing up all that heavy stuff up four flights of stairs (as well as fact that I didn't want them to hold a grudge against me). XD

Should you? It's up to you.

Has the person gone out of his or her way to provide excellent service? Yes? By all means, tip him/her a couple of bucks! (Atleast $5 for a low-end item, $20 - or more - for a high-end item.)

Now, if the person literally sets it down inside the door, asks for your signature and then leaves...No, don't tip him.

Addedum...I feel sorry for any wait staff that the lady with the blond avatar encounters, making a living on minimum wage is tough! Tips are what pay for the things beyond food, rent and one set of new clothes a year!

I think if they have gone out of their way and offered wonderful customer service you should tip a little bit. Not much...maybe like 5 bucks or something. Just to let them know you appreciate the extra help.

Now if they just drop it off in the middle of the room and leave -no.

My sister just had new furniture delivered on Friday and she tipped them $10.00 each. (20.00 total) She had 4 larger items.
We tipped them first to ensure good service. I'm sure it was a small high light of their day.

She is a descent tipper. She came from LA and they tip for a lot of stuff we don't tip for in the mid-west.

No. I think those that deliver furniture get paid a litlte more than pizza delivery guys or waitresses.

Absolutely NOT. I don't even understand why I am charged for delivery of items that HAVE to be delivered. I am not going to pay twice!

I would tip him something, after all he still carried it in for you and put it where you want it. The man still saved you from moving it yourself. You don't have to tip them a lot, but I would tip them like $5 or something for his effort.
