Only your doctor can answer this question. If you are worried, you should see the doctor very soon. This will not get better on its own.
Studies have shown that people who have OCD also have tendencies to become "cutters".
Good luck and best wishes.

The hand thing is suspicious of OCD. The breathing over food - I'm with you on that, that's just common sense. the homework is more "neatnik" that OCD. OCD is the HAVING to do something - so much more than an urge, more of a need to do it. Sounds like you could catch this before it really develops and makes your life miserable.

I used to have a hand washing OCD...now I traded that out for others. i.e. checking the front door a billion times before I go to sleep, checking the car, checking that I unplugged the iron.

The thing about not wanting people to breath on your food.. I think that's normal. Rewriting sloppy notes...you're a perfectionist.

The difference between double checking yourself and an OCD....OCDs interfere with your everyday life.

Hope this helps!

Those thoughts (obsessions) and rituals (compulsions) do sound like symptoms of ocd. I, myself, have ocd, and it is very treatable. In addition to ssri (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor) anti-depressant medication (I take prozac weekly (the time-released prozac, 3x a week), cognitive-behavioral therapy (cbt), a type of 'exposure therapy' called 'exposure and response prevention' can really help the person get control over their compulsions. The cbt can also help if or when new ocd symptoms arise and techniques learned can be carried-over. If needing medication, please go to a licensed psychiatrist as they tend to be much more trained at the proper dosages and latest studies of mental disorders including ocd.

Please talk with a clinical psychologist (Ph.d) who specializes in anxiety disorders or at least has had successful cases of patients with ocd and cbt. And cbt is not easy but well worth the sacrifice of having to deal with the extreme anxiety from 'exposure' to the fears. One has to also comply with the 'homework assignment' given from the therapist in order for the cbt to have the utmost positive outcome. Hoping that your symptoms become more manageable very soon.

about the homework: I just think you like to do things right...but about your obsession with bacteria, yes, you are an obsessive compulsive person, bacteria is -to a certain extent- good for you, it helps you build your inmune system. One time to wash it is enough, and looking at your hands wont help much, bacteria is microscopical anyways. You need to go to a crappy chinesse food restaurant and enjoy... our body is so perfect that it was made to fight those organisms. Enjoy life!

Bacteria is everywhere anyways!

get it checked through a psychologist or psychiatrist. Go over the DSM IV criteria for OCD and see if you qualify for the conditions persisting for over 6 months

If you are worried about yourself, the best thing to do is ask your parents to help you get an evaluation by a psychologist or psychiatrist. I wish you good health.

You should try typing instead of writing your homework. Apparently you don't have a problem with mistakes there.
