I've traced a couple of lines back to the mid 1600's and others to late 1700's.

Personally, the earliest I have traced mine to is 1815 but I have found other relatives who have traced lines back to 1650.

My best line goes back to a birth in about 1510ish, which is when wills and parish records fail me - also my Latin, which is pretty rubbish!

Most of my other maternal and paternal lines peter out in the mid to late 1700s. A couple of lines from Ireland and British India peter out in the 1850s, but generally, I've not done too badly on my tree.

William Paine, b.1550 Braunton, Devon, England, s/o John Paine
The ones I like best in that side of my family are:
Beniamin Bourgoyne, m. 14January 1683 to Gatherude Row at Crediton, Devon. A touch of the French, perhaps?
And, Willmot Puddycomb, Gt. granddaughter of John Puddecombe, who married William Body in Crediton 1730.
They had a good many children and every time a child was baptised, poor Willmot had a different spelling for her first and last name.

My grandparents had a geneologist trace it for us. My mother's side of the family came over on the second sailing of the Mayflower. He brought a cow and a daughter and several indentured servants. His name was Robert Wickson.

The other side of the family is traced back four generations or so to Germany.

We have at least 2 American Indians in our heritage.

Someone, I don't remember who, traced us back to Jacob.

Take care,

Debbie

I haven't traced this myself, but I've seen a family tree and on my Da's side it goes back to the Battle of Bosworth Field and on Mum's, to French Huguenots. (sp?)

1790 on my Mother's side, 1800 on my Father's side, I'm still working on them, things just seem to have slowed up at the moment!
