i need an idea for an installation of 1700 sqf

It depends on where you live. In Glenwood Springs, Colorado, I sell carpet, pad, and installation for $2/sq. ft. (or $3,500 for your job). That's a basic carpet. A decent weight nylon with stain treatment will run about $2.50/sq. ft. Many choices are in the $3-$4 range, with very nice carpets above $5/sq. ft.

Installation alone is at least $0.50/sq. ft., but I hear they pay less in large cities.

Many times the cost of the carpet per yard includes the cost of the pad and installation.

Alot of places like Home Depot and Lowes will charge about $1 a square foot. However, I would go to Craigslist.com and find an experienced carpet layer that wants extra work for the upcoming Holidays. You should be able to find one that will do it all for $200-$300.

Make sure you ask references and check them out personally. If they do good work, they will have willing references.
