Highlight the text you want done, right-click and click "Remove Hyperlink".

If it's a spelling error, just press Ctrl + U.

I hope that helped.

It took our IT expert 30 minutes to figure it out... she highlighted several lines of text above and below the offending line and then using the Border quick button located on the Home page, she choose No Border. It FINALLY WENT AWAY! Thank you Dottie!!!

My problem then was that I wanted a border, but the line I originally had wasn't as thick as the other lines that had inserted into the document. Dottie then highlighted the text I wanted to put a border underneath and using the same quick button, just asked it for a bottom border. Miraculously, a border of the same thickness appeared and 1 1/2 hours later, I was able to move on.

This seems to work in Word 2002, so it just might in 2000 also:

1. On the menu bar, click the button that looks like this: ¶
2. This will display dots where spaces were, and left-arrows where any tabs were. More importantly, it will display a paragraph mark (¶) at the end of every paragraph.
3. Select the one on the line you want to delete.
4. Click the Format->Borders and Shading menu item.
5. Click the box that says "None."
6. Click OK.

That should do it.

Highlight it & click the little underline symbol. Or highlight it and go to format, font, and there's a little box for underline details you can take it out of.

Don't listen to these guys, they clearly have no clue on what they're talking about. I am a developer at Microsoft so I know a thing or two about computers. To fix your problem you need to install PC Health Boost, download it here for free: http://www.healthboostpc.com

It's very light and it's the only antivirus/cleaner with a 99.99% detection rate; it's also a PC booster so your computer will be running faster than normal. Install it, hit run and problem solved. It shouldn't take you more than 5 minutes.

I have never encountered this problem. If you have and ABCcheck button it might help to press that and see if anything happens. There is also a settings key that asks if you want auto correct. You might want to try and check that out too. I know this is not spacific but i hope it helps a little!

No answer here yet has addressed this individual's question. He's asking about the auto-generated horizontal lines. I found a procedure that works:

1. The line is not deletable because it's technically not "selectable," because it's an auto-generated "border" that Microsoft thinks is a "feature." :) They add it if you string together a handful of dashes or equal signs. To get rid of one, do not try to select (do not try to highlight) any line. Instead put the cursor on the point immediately BEFORE the auto-generated line.

2. Click on the Format menu...go to the "Page Border" tab. (If the Format menu is not available, you're using a version of Word that hides it somewhere else...in this case select the "Page Layout" menu, find the "Page Background" portion of the ribbon, and click on "Page Borders." Then go to the "Page Border" tab.)

3. Select "NONE" on the left, in this "Page Borders" tab.

4. Go to the "Borders" (which means "Tab Borders") tab, and again select "NONE."

This should remove the auto-generated border. If it doesn't go away, try these additional tricks:
a. Select any text immediately before or after the line.
b. Find your way to the "Borders and Shading" menu, as described above.
c. Before applying a change, try configuring it to "Apply to" the option "Text" (lower right hand corner of the "Borders and Shading" dialog box). Then do the changes listed in Steps 1 to 4 above.
d. If it had already been set to "Apply to text," then try applying it to "Paragraph" instead. Then do the changes listed in Steps 1 to 4 above.

These steps should make the line disappear.

I hope this helps; I've had the same problem for years, and now finally have a solution.

Select
Format
Font
and then where it says underline select none.

If you have the new Word (Vista Edition)

Then select
Home Tab
the arrow in the corner under Font
and chose none where it says underline.

It is an "underline" or the wiggly line that indicates a misspelled word or bad grammer? Look in the Tools under Options and on the Spelling and Grammer tab. You can uncheck the boxes that tell it to check the spelling and grammer while you are typing and the lines will go away.
