I have a hip problem called displasia. To help manage the pain, I have to wear shoes that are different heights. I don't have a problem during the summer because I clue on an extra sole to the bottom of my sandles. However, I have not been able to find a pair of tennis shoes that I can add height to. I need to put in a half inch to an inch. If I do this inside the shoe, my heal comes out the back. I need to either add something to the bottom or have them made somewhere but I can't find anywhere to have them made. Any suggestions on a store or site? Any ideas would be helpful!

Any local shoemaker/shoe repair should be able to assist. Try the phone book

From your Dr. - podiatrist, orthopedic, or chiropractor
you can get a prescription to take to the shoe-repair shop.
The Dr. will recommend the shops in your area that will do this for you to modify shoes to the prescription.

To obtain the shoes that can be modified, you have a couple of choices.
A) go to where they sell Orthopedic Shoes or Diabetic Shoes. They will have a selection and will work to give you an exact fit as well as to modify your selection according to the prescription. (Ask the Dr. or check the yellow pages of your phone book)
B) with the prescription in hand, go to the shoe repair guy. Tell him what type of shoe you want to have altered, and inturn he will instruct you on what type of sole to seek out in the shoes that you choose.

NOTE: it is a good idea to tell the shoe store of the need for modification, then choose 3 to 6 pairs that are comfortable. (Make it easy for everyone - use a credit card!) Then DO NOT WEAR THE SHOES!!(so they can be returned) Take the shoes you have purchased to the repair shop - have them tell you which of the shoes they CAN ALTER to the Dr.s prescription.........Return the shoes you will not be having altered.
