I was seeing a psychiatrist but now I'm in college. He had me prescribed on an antidepressant (Lexparo, for 10 months) and now I want to call him about beginning to taper off of it. Is it OK to call him about this? Or no because I am not paying him this way? Thanks for the input.

I think that you should call him if he's the one that still prescribing you medications. If he is than he's the one to change the doesage so that you can begin to taper off if he thinks that's the right thing to do.

Answering calls asking about your medication dosage, is part of what most Psychiatrists do. As you are not paying for the phone-time, he will purpose to keep it under 5 min.
If he needs for you to see another Dr. in your new area, to monitor your change in dosage, then he will tell you.

Some Dr.s and counselors will do pre-arranged phone consultations that you are billed for. This is helpful when a person is temporarily out of town, such as for a school-year.

I have been seeing the same psychiatrist for 14 years
I find that calling his nurse helps... it seems to me that she knows ALOT more about what's going on. The nurse would konw if your doctor would do that for you or not. I am fortunate that my doctor has talked to me several times over the phone.

You can call and ask about your meds since you're already a patient.
