Considering that less then 1% of the population is in the military, (300,000,000 citizens and only about 2 million in the Armed Forces including the Reserves.), and that our politicians represent us in general, about the same percentage as the general population or maybe just slightly higher since you have a smaller sample, have a son or daughter in the military.

Why would you expect more unless military service is made a requirement? Its how our government was set up. Civilians run the military, that was set up by the Founding Fathers.
