I pierced my belly button last night with a needle and then put a stud in it like you would use in your ear after you got an ear pierce. How can i make my belly button so i can put a normal navel earring in? It doesn't hurt at all, but i want to get a navel bar in. advice? thanks!

maybe go to the doctor to get it checked out. Piercing your own belly button leaves a big chance of it getting infected. Even my friends who have gotten it done professionally have had to take really good care of it and clean it constantly. My advice would be to take the earring out and clean it really well and let it heal and then if you stil want a piercing go and get it done professionally.

You should take it out now and begin using sea salt soaks and let it heal! There's a lot of things wrong with doing it yourself: you cannot wear proper jewelry because it wasn't pierced at the proper gauge for a navel piercing, professional piercers use a 14 gauge needle because it is safer and less likely to reject, rip out or cause problems. There is no way that your needle or jewelry was sterile and this can lead to a very gross infection and really bad scarring! The stud is definitely going to be uncomfortable and cause irritation and will very likely reject, your skin can actually push it all the way out (I've had this happen before and it's VERY painful!)
Go to www.safepiercing.org to find a professional piercer in your area. Once it is completely healed you can get it redone professionally and choose from a selection of starter jewelry. If you're under 18 you can look around for shops that will do piercings under age w/ parental consent. If you can't get it done professionally for any reason I really suggest you wait! It's your body and you only get one so treat it right ;)

Wow you're a tough cookie to do it yourself! Yikes...

I think the hole that you made with the earring stud may be too narrow to fit a belly button barbell through. The barbells come in different gauges, and I've never heard of a gauge that small. You'll need to go to a piercing shop and find out.

Also, please make sure that you keep everything clean around the pierced area. Don't use alcohol - it will make the stud stick to the inside of your belly button.

Just go get the size checked out by someone at a place that does piercings. Good luck!

first off peircing your own body is normally not a good idea.

but anyways a needle and regular earring is only like a 18 or 20 gauge. almost all navel jewelry is 14 gauge (which is considerably bigger).

so you can let your current piercing heal with the regular earring in and then gradually stretch it to 14 gauge by putting in slightly bigger rings each time. that will take longer and be more expense than just getting it pierced by a pro.

Hmmm...if you want it, make sure you get it done right and follow all the instructions, some people have tons of trouble with it and others never even flinch. I'd ask why you want one-and then see if you want it that bad. I almost got one last year, but decided I didn't want to worry about sleeping on my side/back and I wanted to go swimming without having to care about whether the pool/ocean water would affect it and I didn't want to wear looser shirts. I actually came to the point where I walked in...and walked back out. I just wanted one because it was cute, but I ended up with a second ear piercing instead and I'm quite happy with it. Good luck!

That sounds like a very bad idea...I recommend you take the earring out. If you want a belly ring go to a professional. I have seen home piercings get very infected and it can become terribly dangerous.

you shouldnt have done that. most ear studs are smaller than navel jewelry. you should take it out, let it heal up, and go to a professional piercing place and get it redone. do not keep this in and dont force the navel jewelry in.

I think you've screwed yourself! I've had mine done for about 11 years now and when I first had it done they put a ring in so you can clean it and move it around....I don't see how you're going to clean it with a stud in there! I'd take it out, let it heal and then go have it done properly...it's about $70, and well worth it! Another thing is the people who pierce it for you will give you instruction on what to use to clean it so it doesn't get infected.

definitely go to a professional. theres things that you dont see that could happen. Plus even professional piercing can end in infection. You have to take constant care of it. Im going to link a site that will help. IF you choose not to go to someone.
