I know Atheism only means you do not believe, in the existence of dietys or a diety.

If someone wanted to make a project with an Atheistic theme, would you be interested?

What would you say encapsulates it. Building? Monument? Machine?

I know many of you will think it doesnt need a monument, so please say so.

The Universe, in and of itself, is monument enough... imho.

I visualize a large flat wall... in the middle (a cut out) an opening, an empty space in the shape of a human form (symbolizing the non existence of a God. The surface of the wall would be covered by the impression of human hands.. each one labeled with the name of famous historical Atheists and other scientists and martyrs persecuted by the church.

PS. I'm a sculptor... so that's my thing!...
the importance of the monument (for all those that answer negatively) is to commemorate and honor all who died for a just cause.

Atheism is not a club . It's not any special group . It's just ordinary people who do not believe in the supernatural . No possible monument could show that . I for one , do not want or need any monuments .

It doesn't need or want a monument and it doesn't begin with a capital "A."

PS - Dear Rev - Stalinist Russia was NOT run by atheists! It was run by political dictators who FORBID religious practices and tried to crush the influence of the Church, without success. MANY Stalinists were secretly religious but were unable to express it.

ATHEISM IS THE LACK OF BELIEF IN GOD. Stalinists enforced the oppression of the Church in order to maintain absolute control. That's ALL.

Just like the flying spaghetti monster, I'd really rather that we don't spend money on something as useless as a monument but spend the money for a meaningful cause like education or health system in underprivileged areas.

Personally I just wish that religion went away to the point that it wasn't necessary for us to label ourselves. I can't see any reason we would want a monument. That is to much like a religion.
