My boyfriend is on a no-low carb diet and absolutely no sugar. I want to make a special dinner for him and our kids, I need something the kids will eat, they love veggies and meat, but we're tired of that right now.... also what to serve for dessert?!

I'm a guy on a low carb diet also (nearly none actually - less than 20 per day) and I eat a couple ounces of chicken salad and about 6 green beans every 3 hours. However, there are tasty things you can have and remain relatively low in carbs for a nice dinner. Even low-carbers are allowed to "cheat" once in a while. Remember that fiber content cancels out an equal number of carbs, plus some carbs are not digestable, like in the pasta I am suggesting.

So, I suggest a spagetti dinner. The sauce ingredients are low in carbs and the sugars in the vegetables are natural and not processed. You should be able to find pasta noodles with a net carb weight of 5 grms. "Dreamfields" is the brand name of the product (www.dreamfieldsfoods.com), but it may be different in your country (I'm in the U.S.). They do ship, but you may find something equivalent in Australia.

This type of pasta has twice the fiber of regular pasta and is cholesterol and trans & saturated fat free. Every store won't carry it; you'll have to hunt for it or call around to save time, or even ask them on their website.

I make my own sauce from fresh tomatoes, onions, peppers and spices. Nothing processed except for 1 can of tomato paste. This means no nasty preservatives or any of that other stuff one cannot pronounce.

I'm sure your kids would love it and it appears that you all have been eating meat and veggies which would be typical of a low-carber.

I would say that since his diet is apparently different that that of what you and the kids want, it is kind of his responsibility to fend for himself, since he is the odd-ball by choice. I do not eat what everyone else does in my house, nor at the same time. It's my choice to be this way so I realize it is me that is differrent and so I take care of my meals myself.

Depending upon his portion size of a meal like this, he shouldn't go over 30 gms maybe push 35 if served with low carb garlic bread. For dessert, you may try a variety of puddings that are sugar free and very low carb, or you can make it yourself with "Splenda" instead of sugar.

The typical diet allows for 300 gms of carbs per day. Taking in less than 60 is considered low carb. Typically, when starting on the diet, one tries to stay at around 25 for the first two weeks; after that, up to 60. If he is not taking in somewhere near that, he will sacrifice mustle tissue unless he is on high protien suppliments and working out.

What I'm doing is the lazy way (very low carbs and no exercise) and is not really healthy, so I set aside one day per week when I eat anything I want. Otherwise, the lack of carbs would change my system in a non-healty way.

Depending upon his dedication, he might feel guilty eating pasta, but if you serve the right kind, he will feel better the next day when he finds he hasn't gained an ounce.
