learning how to witness takes time....thats all. Its imperfect people..trying to share a perfect Gospel...and in their own passion..they come across too strong.
If you dont understand how to edify your hearer...you wont do it.
..and AMEN Lion of Judah...God did not say NEVER judge... The people who use that are typically the ones that dont want anyone making them feel funny about their own sin.

Since you ask why. Allow me to defend a little if you will. Some Christians deeply truly mean good to come of it. How can you know something is wrong unless some one tells you? Sure there is the obvious stuff like "Do not play Russian Roulette with a semi-automatic." But others are more tricky. So by saying do not do this or that we hope to save them from themselves. Sadly as you have noted and many others it comes off less like help and more like hurt. I am sorry to disillusion anyone but as a Christian it is imperative that you know how to judge. The Bible is full of examples and the trick is to know when to judge and when not to. People say Jesus did not judge and I say that is incorrect. He did not condemn. Look at what he did in the Temple courts or how he treated those that should have been leading the flock of Israel. Yet even they were not condemned had they softened their hearts they too would have received forgiveness and perhaps some did. How do we balance this? Simple. We must realize that what we do here will be used against us or for us. We must deal with ourselves first and then with love reach out to those around us as the Spirit Guides. If we receive opposition we allow them to go on their way and pray God will reach out to them and wish them well.

What people do not realize is that calling something that is a sin, a sin, is not judging. The judging comes when we start saying that they are bad people for their sins and start condemning them for it. I sinned this weekend, I'm sure that I sinned today. Everyone that I know has sinned. Am I judging them because I am calling them a sinner? No, because in the process, I point the finger at myself too.

NV,
YOU must be at the wrong Church. We do no such thing where I attend. I read, study, and obey our FATHER'S WORD each and every day. HE sent HIS SON so that I would have an opportunity to be in Heaven. Those who Judge others will, themselves be Judged for it. HE expects us to "Do unto others as you would have others do unto you." I am no better than any other person on this earth and if I act as though I am saved and do not care as much about those around me then it is all in vain! Some seem to forget where they have been and think only to their future rather than to their past as we are told to do. Paul reminded church members that some of them had been thieves and worse yet they had been released from those sins. Keep that in mind as you walk through every day for the rest of your life. Have a wonderful week.
Thanks,
Eds

Not all Christians judge all the time. It was warned about in the bible because it is human nature to do so...christian or not. It is so disappointing when Christians do it because it is a bad witness of Gods love. Recognizing sin and going to your brother or sister in Christ in love is not judging. My husband sees me doing something I may not recognize I am doing I want him to tell me. That is not judging but helping me in my walk...goes both ways. But for gossipers in church to throw stones hurts...been there and felt that. Just pray for our fellow Christians and when you are around the Gossip then you take a stand and quote a bible verse about judging and let them know lovingly that you will not participate in the putting down of others. Be the example of Christ to others. Do not let the errors of others harm your relationship with Christ. Good luck and God bless!!!
edit...Lion of Judah got it right on the nail!!!!

Only you can make a decision not to do that. I know that's something I struggle with from time to time. I think it's trying to make us feel better about ourselves. You know, " well look at them - I don't do that." However that is not what Christianity is all about. The bible says that with the same measure we use to judge others, we will be judged. That really helped me to catch myself when I tend to be judgemental. Well, that and the time I thought someone was drunk and they actually slurred their words because of a stroke - ouch :-(

Christians should not be quick to judge people. We sin every day. Our sinful nature wants to judge quickly. But non-chrsitians do that as well. Christians who do that should look at themselves before they judge people like that.
Judge and you too will be judged.

Should We Never Judge?
"Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment"; and "You have rightly judged."; and "Yes, and why, even of yourselves, do you not judge what is right?"; and "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel land and sea to win one proselyte, and when he is won, you make him twice as much a son of hell as yourselves". (Jesus' Words in John 7:24; Luke 7:43, 12:57 and Matt. 23:15)
There is an extremely serious error that is being believed by the vast majority of people caught up in christian religion. This error is literally making those folks unwilling and unable to discern truth. And what is this error? It is believing that all "judgment" is wrong. If this is true, then what is to be made of Jesus' Words above? In the verses above, Jesus clearly commands people to judge, commends people for judging, and judges himself.
The key point to understand is that not all judgment is wrong, just various types of judgment. The types of judgment that are wrong according to Jesus are condemnation, as well as hypocritical and self-righteous judgment. On the other hand, right judgment is commended by Jesus as we see above. Right judgment includes the judging of truth versus falsehood. The sincere, serious and sober judgment of our own sins, as well as the gentle, and compassionate judgment and correction of other's beliefs or sins.

Christians should not "judge" non-believers, however if a Christian comes across a professed believer who is apparently falling short, it is his obligation to at the bare minimum to at least question his behavior.

The same reasons that Muslims fly planes into buildings. Oh wait a minute that's called taring everybody with the same brush, it wasn't all the muslims in the world who flew aeroplanes into buildings just a few over zealous hate filled ones. Could this be similar to your statement, I'll leave you to figure that one out.
