Just wondering; He also said that life was nothing to wish upon an animal.

Is he right?

Vonnegut also believes that we were "planted" on this earth - that this earth was "seeded" by some intergalactic space farers.

I'm going to extend your question to modern culture - let's see what happens:

Is the fact that we didn't ask to be born in this country a viable defense against disobeying the laws of this country?

You are not judged just because you are born in this country, but rather because you break the laws. Likewise, God does not judge you for being born, but by breaking His Laws (refer to the list of the 10 commandments).

Have you ever told a lie? Have you ever taken anything that wasn't rightfully yours to take, have you ever looked at another person with sexual desires? Have you ever been so angry or hateful that there was murderous intent in your heart?

If in the brutal honesty of your heart you answered yes to these questions, then you are a lying, thieving, adulterous murderer. And for THAT you will be judged.

Guilty as charged!

So, do you have a good defense attorney? I happen to know one, and he never (and I mean absolutely NEVER) loses a case. His name is Jesus Christ, and He can defend you because he took your place on the cross and died in your place. Of course he can NOT defend you if you reject His counsel, then you are still facing judgement.

Additional comment:
If you don't like the laws of THIS country, you are certainly free to defect to some other country. Likewise, if you don't like God's Laws, God will allow you to live in a place where He will have absolutely NO influence. This is a place where God is not. Oh, but one thing you need to be aware of - in the same way that defecting to another country will cost you the freedoms of living in THIS country, in the same way, if you choose to live away from God, the benefits that come from God will not be afforded you, either.

The benefits are that "ALL good things come from God", which means that there will be NO good things there - friends are good, so you won't have any; comfort is good, so there will be none; freedom is good, so is love. Freedom from pain is a good thing, so that, too will be unavailable to you. And of course, hope. Hope is always a good thing, and that, too, will be totally removed! Living with no hope, love, joy, peace, comfort or friends for all eternity! But, hey - you don't want God, His Laws, or His Kingdom rights to interfere with your lifestyle, now, do you?

Your choice. I sure hope you can live with it, I know *I* sure wouldn't be able to!

Well, since some philosophies and religions DO believe that you ask to be reborn, I'd be hesitant to call Vonnegut's opinion "fact" in the first place...

Ah, Vonnegut, the father of Modern Bokononism.

I suppose his "defense" upon Judgement makes more sense than the Idea of judgement does.
After all of the centuries of arguing over it to the death, Christians still can not agree on it.

Vonnegut was not correct. Life is a gift and we have the choice of how to live out that gift no matter how difficult it is.

It is uncertain that we didnt ask to be born.
We often do things as children we dont recall as adults.
However... if it were true "defense" would only be applicable if a "god" would listen to it.

I would find that argument quite perfect.
It is unlikely that the God of Abraham would.

Well, let me say this. If there is a judgment day, then any defenses that are viable will be up to God.

No, he is wrong. We did agree to it. The ones who did not (Devil and his 'angels') were cast down to the earth with no hope of ever getting a body or being born. The rest of us agreed to the plan to come down here and get a body and be subject to all the trials of life.

I think the lack of a Judge is a better defense.

I don't think so.
Even in our court system there have been found guilty of being in a place when they did not even know they were in one.

Well seeing as existance is full of guarenteed suffering, aging, sickness and death (of us and of all we hold dear & love), isn't it a defence to say "at least I went the stretch & didn't kill myself or anyone else!"

I'm inclined to agree with him!
