i'm only asking this because a few of my friends are getting worried so please tell me your views.
i'm 13, small and a little chubby. in may or June i started eating less because i wanted to lose a bit of weight but now i can't stop. it started off by just skipping a few lunches, now i don't eat lunch or breakfast ever and i exercise after my tea ( which i have to have due to my mum + dad) at school when everyone is eating their lunch i sometimes feel sick because of the smell of the food and just looking at them eating it. after i have food i sometimes cry because i feel so guilty and fat! i think that's it ... so do you think i have an eating disorder + what do you think i have? but i think i'm fine =D

i completely understand u as it sort of the same thing with me though no where near as severe.
i think by now you have to be pretty skinny/thin
what you have to do is eat more healthly [cant spell lol]
i can't really offer that much advice as im sort of in the same position.
But the easiest thing is to build gradually up.
at lunch maybe have an apple.
or a banana at breakfast.
if you have a break mid morning, instead of having lunch/breakfast, have a rice cracker or something light.
if you can build it up, keep trying, although its scary you have to trust yourself.
and listen to your friends!
:)

Yes you do have an eating disorder. Cutting down your food intake as severly as you have has caused your body to respond negitivly towards food (this is why you feel sick when you can smell it). You have also created internal problems with your digestive system. If you don't change the way you eat soon, you will face much larger problems than having a few extra curves. You need to speak with a nutritionalist or someone who can help you. You'll learn that eating many small healthy snacks between meals is actually much better for you than skipping a meal. This is because your body needs the energy to keep your metabolism going, and that's what burns extra calories and fat.

Eating Disorder or Disordered Eating???

You are a young lady who is endangering your health and well-being by skipping meals.

The teenage years are very important for your health for the rest of your life. By skipping meals and starving yourself of vitamins and nutrients, you are endangering your health. You will not have your period correctly, your body will not develop into a young ladies with breasts and curves.

I have a friend who acted exactly like you when she was a teeneager, and she has had multiple health problems and major surgeries in her adult years. She actually had to have a portion of her intestines removed due to damage done to her digestive tract with skipping meals and getting sick from watching others eat. She was not eating enough for her intestines to process food properly, and part of her intestine became non-reactive, which means it was unable to push the digesting food through her body.

She has developed seizures due to all of the chemical imbalance in her body, and is unable to have children because her body will not carry a baby to term. This ended up devastating her life so much, she is going through a divorce because of it.

If you keep up the way you are going, you will become too weak to function, and then you will end up in the hospital.

Do you want to put your parents through this trauma? I hope that they realize what you are doing and insist the you get some medical and psychological help soon.

You have a long life ahead of you, you need to concentrate on living, not starving yourself to some unattainable and dangerous undernourished state.

Sorry if this is a blunt answer, but kindness is not going to get you past this problem, facts and common sense will.

I wish you the best.

You may be developing one. Tell your parents what is going on so they can get you help. Eating disorders can get really serious and put your life at risk so please tell them. Remember that it is normal to ba a little chubby as a teen before you grow taller. Learn to love yourself the way you are and learn to enjoy eating healthy, and a few snacks here and there. Just because everyone is skinny doesn't mean you have to be. I was a chubby teen for a while and as I grew older the chubby went away and left me with lovely womanly curves. I will never be stick thin and embrace my uniqueness. Have your doctor tell you the right weight for your height and try to be near that. Healthy does not mean skinny skinny. Love your body, feed it well and don't try to be just another underweight teen.

Yes you sound like you do have problems.I notice you describe your self as small and chubby, so in your mind you think you are fat. You are only thirteen, you are in your growing stage, you will shoot like a flower over the next few years, give your body a chance it needs nourishing, so eat sensibly and do a little fitness if you must. Go see your doctor or if you have a councilor at school go and see them, but please get some help before it is too late. Letting yourself become anorexic will ruin your life.

I would say you definitely have an issue with food. You should probably talk to a professional. And, you should also remember that at 13 your body is changing. You're going to start filling out more and have curves where you didn't before.

But really, you should talk to someone. It really does help to get a different perspective.

You obviously don't think you're fine otherwise you wouldn't be asking. You know it isn't healthy to skip meals - instead of eating nothing at all during the day, eat fruit and vegetables and lean meat. This will help maintain your weight but also provide you with energy and nutrients you need. I think you should talk to your parents, you know this isn't ok what you are doing.

Oh, lovey, you've started to develop a very unhappy relationship with food, and yes, this does sound like an eating disorder.

I'm thinking that you feel the need to be able to control SOMETHING in your life. Your body is something that you can starve into submission, right? Being able to withstand the hunger pangs makes you feel more powerful and more in control, right? And giving in makes you feel like you're a failure - having something in your stomach is some of defeat, is this it?

I'm afraid not, pet. You need to learn about your body and what it needs. At the moment you're far from fine, and if you keep going on like this, your body will only start to consume itself. You're 13 years old, of course you were a little chubby, that's perfectly normal and perfectly healthy at your age - your body is preparing to grow. Puppy fat generally disappears over the next few years, I'd say in your case you have already got rid of it.

You need to eat 3 meals a day. They don't have to be big, and you can educate yourself about food and the various different components and see what you NEED to be eating. Some foods you do need to avoid generally: like deep-fried food, white bread, fatty meat, butter and cream, fizzy sweet drinks (which I think are slow-acting poisons but that's just me) but you can have these occasionally. Other foods you can have as much of as you want: green vegetables, root vegetables that you can eat raw, fruit are prime examples. The calorific value is these in minimal, and they provide very valuable vitamines and minerals. Other foods you can have, but monitor the portions: rice, lean meat, chicken, potatoes and other starchy vegetables, nuts (which you don't eat if you're allergic), all types of pulses like beans, brown and wholegrain breads, pasta, grains like couscous and millet, yoghurt, cheese and milk.

You need to get back into a regular eating pattern. Now, I should warn you, that initially you will put on a fair bit of weight - but please don't get alarmed at this. Right now you have your body functioning in famine mode, so it works to conserve whatever calories you give it. As soon as you start eating normally, you will gain weight quickly because your body is still in famine mode and confused, and it will take a few weeks for your weight to stablise.

Please understand, you DO have a problem. And you DO need help. And you CAN learn about what's good for you to eat. And you CAN stay looking slim and nice without starving yourself.

its hard to get over feeling fat i went through a satge last month where i had minor anorexia its not nice and its really really hard to get over but maybe you should talk to someone and remember that its okay to eat food as you need it to grow! you say your small and at 13 you still have lots of growing to do so you need food to reach your full height...
start of by going onto google and typing in "BMI calculator for kids" click on one and enter in your height and weight any thing in normal means you are perfectly healthy! if you are under weight i would advise going to see a doctor and if your overweight just try eating healthy and excersing for an hour a day
rember start off small just by eating more than you would like a bread roll or salad for luch but you will need to go back to normal which means trying to eat 5 portions of fruit and veg a day
good luck =]
