I have a 2003 Ford Windstar...... all of a sudden the tranny refused to engage.... driving at 110 kph. No noise, no previous problems... any input would be greatly appreciated...

That's about 68 mph so not speeding. If it did not engage when you stopped I would suspect the torque converter. You left out that part so this is strictly a maybe.
