No, I didn't know they didn't allow atheists. Now, I do know there is A LOT of Christianity spread in the Boy Scouts (it's what caused my son to quit the first year)
Atheist camps? And she provides links from Answers in Genesis??? I wonder if she knows Ham is being sued for LYING? Some people are so gullible *sigh*
I would be more willing to send my son to an Atheist camp than a Christian one (and I'm sure my 17 yr old son would agree)

1. The Boy Scouts get some support from the government, but not money. Most of the support is in the form of letting them use government land for camping, etc.
2. The Boy Scouts officially do not support homosexuality or atheism, but in reality- they never ask, it does not show up on any of the application forms, and functionally is rarely an issue. Most of the people in Scouts have no real religious beliefs- other than some superficial 'bless this food' things.
3. Many groups discriminate in one way or another and enjoy Federal Charters as well. Their 'discrimination' is more easily forgiven or politely overlooked- but it is discrimination nonetheless. Any sanctions placed on the Scouts for discrimination should apply to them as well.
One list of such Federally Chartered groups appears here. You can see for yourelf that many of them focus on one sex, faith, job, disability, etc. Few, if any, of them are open to anyone who wishes to join. http://www.access.gpo.gov/uscode/title36/subtitleii_partb_.html

Hold on there a minute - they don't allow people who SAY they are atheists... and as I recall, I WAS one when I was a Boy Scout.
The "Under God" part of the pledge of allegiance wasn't added until the 50's. You pay taxes to that entity.
People who SAY they are gay aren't allowed into the military, either.
Being atheist, in one way, must be like being a Jehova's witness (maybe not the flat nose part)
You are there with everyone, but not part of what is going on. Taxpayers support lots of things I find WAY more reprehensible than Boy Scouts - and if you think church and state are separate, I have a news flash, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion"...
Either they "respect" a religion by considering it an "establishment", or they make no laws "with respect to" religions at all. Right now, we're one nation under God - not necessarily one nation with or without of God. It's a paradox, and flawed, but that's where we are.
As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord - but my way is my choice. I didn't feel ostracized for being an athiest in boy scouts, but I wasn't forced to join. You don't like it? Stop paying taxes and take it to court. Seems that's all we do - delineate and litigate.

Of course. Baydon Powell whom founded it was a Christian. It just so happens that it took off and has done a lot of good for many. Stay out if it offends you. The government can fund anything it wants if they are Americans... get a life.

They do allow atheists. Atheists just have to put up with a lot of god stuff if they want to be a part.
However, since the Scouts do preach, they really should not receive federal funding IMO. But, with Bush's churchy-focused charity crap, it's probably technically legal.

Yes...
Its the reason I'm not a Boy Scout leader- I used to be in the scouts when I was a kid, and would gladly volunteer with them were this not the case... Scouts was a LOT of fun.
their loss.

Yes I do realize that.
They also discriminate against gays.
They should not get tax money.
Do not support the United Way because they support these people as well.

I just don't see how a boy scout could earn his communion patch if he's atheist.
