me and my friends are planning on making a cake for eachothers birthdays, and i want them to plan a fruit flavored one for mine, although i don't know what's going to be freshest.

enlighten me.

In early spring, your best bet is going to be strawberries. It's one of the first fruits you can count on that early in the year. Depending on where you live, other berries may also become widely available at that time.

A lot of that depends on where you live - or at least where your fruit lives -

Apricots, peaches, pears, plums, strawberries, etc. are all in season from California, but may not be in season in your area.

One idea you might entertain could be a fruit tart instead of a traditional b-day cake- here's a good one that my family loves and you can tailor it to the types of fruit that are in season when you want to make it. Head to the store and look at what fruit is the best priced, most vibrant color and best smell.
