No, because if you closed without saving you will have ignored the prompt to save and clicked on the No. The only way you would have got it back without having saved is if you'd closed down the computer as if there had been power failure and it would have been autorecovered. In future, get into the habit of as soon as you have typed a few words, click on the save icon. The autorecovery will then kick in so even if you forget to save again, but get yourself into the habit of saving regularly, it will automatically save. In this respect, change the autorecovery from 10 minutes down to about 4 through Tools, Options, save

Depending on your version of Word, you might be able to get it back if you restart Word real quick like.

Word may sense that you exited Word prematurely and allow you to reload it at the last point.

PS: You can set Word to automatically save the document at any interval you like, every 30 minutes or every 5 minutes, whatever.

Set it to what you feel you need, so if ever a power outage, you can always get it back at the latest save.

I doubt it, unless you opted for Word to automatically create backups. While you are working, your edits are in memory. Unless you save to a file, it's gone.

In Word, you might want to:
click Tools
options
save
click to "always create a backup copy"
every document will have a file named "backup of ---"
when you "refresh" they will all go to the top of the list and are easily deleted when you are sure you are finished.

On the same tab - save - you can set autorecover every 10 minutes or so. The system will create a copy of what you have done so far and sometimes, if you mess up, it can "recover" part or all of the file.

Although this is an old question, Marco C.'s response should be elevated to the top answer.

> [since] Word 2010 ... File>Recent and on the bottom right there will be a button "recover unsaved documents"

I don't know why they hide this butto. It saved my life. Thanks!

I have bad news for you, dude. Unless you've configured Word to periodically autosave, you're toast. Sorry. Happens to the best of us.

thanks to Word 2010 this changed. Follow this path: File>Recent and on the bottom right there will be a button "recover unsaved documents"
