So I dont really need braces and never been to the orthodontist, but for some reason my dentist says theres like a 10% chance i could get them. Also, can i get braces even if there is nothing wrong with them?

Why would you want someone to put something on your teeth and tighten them (which hurts a whole lot) every month if you didn't absolutely need it, plus it's very expensive. Trust me, you don't want them if you don't need them.

why would anyone want to get them if you don't need them? Some dentists work with orthodontists and get a percentage for recommending them.

You pay they get a kick back, get a second opinion even a third. They are expensive there is pain involved so you need to ask yourself if there is nothing wrong with your teeth and your eclusion is fine,,(your bite) why get them at all? Spend the money on something else. It is an expensive and time consuming process. I know,I did 8 years plus surgery and in the end my teeth are shifting to this day so all I did and spent and for what?

Why do you want braces, then? I had braces because I needed them and they can be very uncomfortable when the orthodontist tightens them. If your teeth are straight and the orthodontist says you don't need braces, save your time and money and don't get them.

Perhaps your X-rays reveal something that could occur down the road. I really couldn't say. You should have asked your dentist why there's a 10% chance. But, and keep this in mind, it's an orthodontist who makes the decision as to the need for orthodontia, not a DDS.

You could get the braces without really needing them. Conversely, if your malocclusion is mild or you have slight crowding, you may function very well for the rest of your life without any orthodontic correction. A good orthodontist should, at the conulstation appointment, tell you the benefits of treating your case as well as his opinion on whether treatment is really necessary. If you have any doubts, a second opinion is in order. Good luck to you!

My one son really needed braces and got them. His teeth got straightened, but have since shifted some. My other son could have gotten braces for a less serious problem, but didn't. I'm glad we didn't bother with him. His teeth look fine, not perfect if you really want to analyze them, but his smile looks fine. His teeth actually look better than my son's teeth who had the braces. Save your money and pain unless there is a real problem that is worth fixing.

Most orthodontists will give you a free consultation. If your teeth look nice, you may still have a problem with the way your teeth bite together, which can lead to pain in the TMJ later in life.
