watched the stars, followed the seasons, and were very much followers of the ancient path.

Well they didn't go to war. They were happy dancing around fires with their faces painted. We all know although some can't bring themselves to admit it that the human race started it's decline about the same time people started to believe in gods. This is for the non-believers who just can't face the truth. THERE IS NO GOD. NEVER HAS BEEN. NEVER WILL BE. Oh sorry, there is two entities out there we all should pay homage to: THE EARTH AND THE SUN.The bible is an old fictitious story meant to scare dumb humans into a mental state so they can be controlled better. If there was a god do you actually think he would have let George W. Bush take the Office of the Presidency. I think not. Smarten up people. THERE IS NO GOD! End of story.

God originally spoke to the people and they obeyed him (like Noah building the ark & taking his family & the animals on board before the flood). Another instance was Moses and the 10 commandments. When God was with someone, that meant that He was protecting them and prospering them. If He was not with someone, then He took away His protection, etc. The masses eventually figured this out, mainly because they were told by the prophets, so they started to live according to what they'd learned. People passed God's Word on by word of mouth, from one generation to another. They observed certain 'holidays' (for lack of a better word at the moment), they prayed, they sacrificed & other things to worship & honor God (David wrote psalms, or songs). Eventually they started to write all of it down.
There's more to it than that, but that's it in a nutshell.

Read the Bible and it will tell you what they did. The bible in the old testament gives account of what was going on before the bible was wrote. The Bible was only put together about five thousand years ago.

The Bible is somewhat like a history book as well. Things in the Bible aren't live but creation (Adam, Eve) believed in God. Their kids and their kids and so on believed in God and these people actually had God talk to them (through dreams, burning bushes, etc.). The bible records these. God also made the 10 commandments.
The law of the Lord is perfect converting the soul... -Psalm 19:7

The bible is merely written manifestation of the stories that generations had been sharing well before someone put pen to paper.
That doesn't make the stories any less true.

Worshiped one or more of the other thousands of gods. Gods are not a new idea. They are a bronze age superstition that many have a hard time letting go of.

There were other religions that people followed before Christianity. They followed those rules and stories.
