I think if you come to this country (UK) for asylum or for whatever reason, then you should NOT be allowed to claim ANY benefits.I also think you should have to pay for medical care, except in childrens cases. Who agrees?

you do realise that claiming asylum means that you WILL be on benefits even for a short while whilst finding a job. do you even know how much private medical insurance costs. the average briton can't afford it let alone an asylum seeker working less than minimum wage

although i do think that those that abuse the system and refuse to find work should piss off. and i am not resricting my view to asylum seekers. i am including british citizens aswell

i think that if we are letting asylum seekers in, then it is our responsibility to care for them to an extent. why should lazy british people get benefits and not asylum seekers. most of which are hardworking individuals, willing to work for pitiful amounts of money that i for one wouldnt

i think that in posting this question you are showing yourself up to be closed minded, misinformed and at a strech, slightly prejudiced

Like someone just above said. I do not think that ANYBODY should be able to claim a benefit. If you have worked in UK for 5 years or more ( this applies to Brits too) you should be able to claim for 6 months and then the local council that you claim from should be allowed to use you to fill in as street sweepers etc. for as many hours as it takes to work off your benefits.
As far as Medical goes. I would not refuse it to anyone that really needs it in an emergency but then we will not have anyone unemployed so there will be lots of money for the NHS.

There is a difference between Asylum seekers and imigrant workers

Asylum seekers should be treated as such, after determining the acccuracy of their claims, then benifits may be useful to them and I doubt anyone would really object to assisting genuine people

Imigrants should be partially self sufficient or have a sponser organisation , we should also be looking at the negative effect allowing mass imigration has on the country of origin, ie.e Afirca, if they seriously want to rebuild these countries, then the young and fit, who probably make up most of the imigrants are exactly the type of person that should be staying in their own country to help develop and improve it.

Some one who leaves a country for economic reasons, is basically deserting their own people, do we really want that type of person in this country, when things get tough here, will they contribute to our success, I doubt it, I think they left for money and they will leave for somewhere, where the grass is greener again after taking what they can from us

Most foreigners are NOT allowed to claim benefits unless they have been accepted as permanent residents. People claiming asylum are in a different category though - they are not allowed to work, and if they are here it is because the Home Office has not yet found it to be safe to send them back. So how should they live or get medical care?

If a foreigner is paying the same contributions and tax that a British person is paying then why should they not be allowed to claim benefits and have access to the National Health Service when it becomes necessary?

I strongly protest at paying a third of my salary to the government in taxes and NI contributions so that thousands of long term benefit scroungers can sit at home and watch TV all day while I pay for their rent, council tax, medical prescriptions and free dental treatment.... and most of those are bone idle, British and just plain work shy

But for the genuine benefit claimants I have no problem...for the short time they are out of work they have paid in full for their benefits from their own contributions and taxes....so whatever nationality they are they deserve the best the UK can give them....

I think that foreigners should not be allowed to recieve benefits, however they should be allowed to recieve free healthcare.
I think the fact that we have a free healthcare system in this country is something to be very proud of.
If you think immigrants should have to pay for healthcare, would you also be happy paying for healthcare?

However, i would just like to remind people that not all immigrants are a drain on the benefits here in england. My husband is an african national (whilst i was born and raised in england), has lived here for nearly 5 years and has worked all the time living here (never missing more than 1 month of work in 5 years), never claiming any sirt if benefits, and the same can be said for all of his friends.
For the most part immigrants are hard-working people who are willing to do the jobs that many british citizens refuse to take.

PLEASE DO NOT GO ABOUT TARRING ALL IMMIGRANTS WITH THE SAME BRUSH.

If i asked for asylum and became a uk cit. I would expect to the rights and privileges of being a U.K. Cit.

As long as a person pays into a system of medical, dental, vision, health, and whatever tax structure is place in the u.k., they should have a right to draw from it.

Personally, I think the access to benefits should be much more limited for everyone. You will both get rid of those who came here to scroung and of your native workshy benefit scroungers.
About healthcare: it's OK, I will go for a private national insurance, but then, I do not want to pay National Insurance Contribution, and also my tax should be lower.
Considering how many times I have had to use the NHS and how much NIC and taxes I pay every month, it sounds like a good deal to me.

Edit: Mamapeapa said: "...But it makes you wonder why everyone moves to England instead of France or Spain or Poland maybe???..." Have you forgot, Mama, thousands of Brits moving to Spain and France? What is this saying about the chip on someone's shoulder?

What most of you here don't seem to grasp is that the reason we live in a well off economy in Britain is because we the British poeple have made this country what it is today , hard work and dedication over decades. Our country is a magnet for economic migrants and asylum seekers because this is a ready made successful country. But what gives them the right to claim benefits? Benefits for what? They haven't worked here and never paid into the tax system. So in answer to your question I agree , they should not be allowed to claim any benefit or receive any other perks.

these sort of question only come to light when people need someone to blame, for the lack of money in the country.i think with low pay rises, high house prices, wages not keeping up with them,we look at immigrants as the ones to have a go at.if there was plenty of money around, .people had nice houses, crime was down we would not worry about foreigners.they have always been here ,illegal immigrants..people in government are happy for us to fight each other over this issue.while they make the rich richer. on the backs of poor people, struggling to pay for house, family's cars ,and loans.we are told we are a rich country, how about the majority of people in this country having a bit of it then.no it will never happen
