You Ain't Gonna Like Losing!
President Bush did make a bad mistake in the war on terrorism. But the mistake was not his decision to go to war in Iraq .Bush's mistake came in his belief that this country is the same one his father fought for in WWII.
It is not.
Back then, they had just come out of a vicious depression. The country was steeled by the hardship of that depression, but they still believed fervently in this country. They knew that the people had elected their leaders, so it was the people's duty to back those leaders.
Therefore, when the war broke out the people came together, rallied behind, and stuck with their leaders, whether they had voted for them or not or whether the war was going badly or not. And war was just as distasteful and the anguish just as great then as it is today. Often there were more casualties in one day in WWII than we have had in the entire Iraq war. But that did not matter. (see the rest at my home page, plz.)

So, true.

It is not the president, but instead the country, who has shown gross negligence, weakness and ignorance during the past 7 years.

God bless our Bush.

Let's remember that America wasn't what was being displayed in the 1950's TV and movies. There were many who felt that it was Europe's war and we should stay out of it. There were also those that blamed US policy for the bombing of Pearl Harbor. And there were many who refused to serve. But there were also those who felt duty was above personal ideas. Those who served and served well are the ones to honor. Even with what is happening today, those serving are the honored ones and those who refuse to support are the ones that should be shunned.

Please don't paint a rosy picture that all was tranquil in America during the war, because that simply isn't true. And try to rethink what you are writing; to say that the president made a mistake is irresponsible and only leads to enable those who's only goal is the complete destruction of the United States.

I don't know where your home page is so I couldn't read the rest of the letter. I'm guessing from the title it has to do with kids still being able to go to the shopping mall, or the protesters at the "Mall" in D.C.

It's not the people, it's the press. The original AP reporters were reporting attacks that never happened using a source that never existed. Then instead of getting fired, they got promoted to editors. Most of the information that came from Iraq came from those reporters and editors because newpapers and the TV news didn't want to sent reporters to Iraq. They just bought the news coming off the wire. It would be the first time the AP used liberal biased reporters to fake the news including altering quotes photos and the facts.

The letter makes some good points. But there was a growing chorus of people in World War Two who wanted the slaughter to stop and came out against the military leaders of the time. I was allowed to read some of the letters sent to Admiral Chester Nimitz after the Battle of Iwo Jima. Letters written by women who had lost a man at the battle. Hateful letters so filled with anger they make Cindy Sheehan look like the head of the California Republican Committee.
The difference in the two eras was the role carried out the by the media. Reporters like Ernie Pyle and the like who told the American people what was going on and they told it from the foxhole next to the guys they were reporting on. Those same reporters also knew that some stories had to "spiked" or delayed because reporting them at the time could cost American lives in future engagements. That appreciation of the overall picture is lacking in today's crop of "journalists".
Members of the political parties in opposition to Roosevelt and the Democrats also stayed away from being "Monday Morning Quarterbacks" on the conduct of military operations. The first time that U.S. troops fought against German troops in the Battle of Kaserine Pass in North Africa, the U.S. forces got beaten badly. In the invasion of Sicily we launched 161 gliders filled with troops onto that island. Only 59 gliders got in without people being injured or killed upon landing.
The amphibious landing at Tarawa was a disaster because no one consulted hydrographic charts of the island and the landing craft ran up on the coral reef in front of the landing beaches.
During the Battle of Okinawa we lost more ships and men, due to attacks by Kamikaze aircraft, than we did at Pearl Harbor.
Not one peep was heard from the other side of the aisle after these military debacles. I think the politicians of that day had something which is missing today: Class!

I guess the writer just doesn't understand. There is a difference between war, and a police action.
Look, patriotic soldier, most are behind our soldiers like you, whether we back the President or not is another matter in itself.
Any war, in which the USA enters, we could WIN, no doubt in my mind. It is the constraints that we undertake in these battles today which brings about the type of letter that you received.
We are not allowed to seek out the enemy and destroy them, no, for then we are being as a bully, to such a small country.
It doesn't seem to matter to these people that a small nuclear bomb placed in a large city would be devastating in both casualties, and property lost.
I also agree with another one who answered your question, it seems to be worse now, than when I joined the military during Vietnam.
No one wants to, or has the will to fight for themselves.
Please do not lose faith, nor think that the VAST majority of Americans do not back our soldiers.
WE DO BACK OUR TROOPS ! We love you all, miss you all, and wish "GODSPEED" to all of our loyal fighting men and women that serve our nation at any time.
I for one, wish you and all of your fellow service people, the VERY BEST of LUCK, and SKILL. Come back home safely.........TAKE CARE !
