I haven't had one personally, but my aunt who is a nurse witnessed something very strange once. A guy had a heart attack, and he was dead. Flat line for awhile. Then they brought him back. My aunt was one of the nurses in the room. When he woke up, he had claimed that he had been floating at the top of the room and there was a light telling him to stay. Of course, no one really believed him at first. Just thought he was rambling nonsense. Strange thing was, when he was up walking around the hospital a few days later, he could point out all the nurses that were in the room and tell them exactly what they did and where they were in the room. The nurses that had been in the room had not even seen him since they got his heart going again, and they were all really shocked when he recognized them. My aunt just couldn't believe it. They all tried to think up some way he could have known, but there really wasn't one. My aunt is still puzzled by it today, and this happened in the mid 80s. She doesn't talk about her beliefs ever, but I'm pretty sure she is an atheist. When my mom mentioned that he could have been telling the truth, she refused to believe it, but couldn't think of another explanation. Weird stuff.

There is no such thing as an actual life after death experience. People all have their own ideas of what heaven is, so when their bodies are shutting down, their brain sends them into a dream state and shows them their fantasy of heaven.
Think of it this way too, if god existed and there was a heaven, would god really show you heaven before you are going to stay dead? (he would know if you were going to stay dead or not) Wouldn't you just want to stay there?

If by obnoxious commentary you mean don't bring up that they are rapidly showing NDE to be a purely physical phenomenon, sorry.
