Hi, I was wondering, is it common that the SSN of whoever responsible for the payment (usually parents) is required in preshool's registration form?

As far as I know, we obliged to provide our SSN for tax-related purposes or health insurance related, but not for preschool.

They said it's needed for processing.

I mean, when they give the annual statement for tax filling (for tax deduction) purposes, they don't need to put our SSN on it. They don't even need to run credit check.

It's just confusing. I really appreciate any inputs.

Thanks.

Moerover, they required payment at the beginning of the month for a particular month, either by check or cash. So, I don't see the possibility of someone that doesn't pay can cause a financial harm to them (I don't see the need for them to have the ability to report to credit bureau anyway).

Stand firm. They don't need your SSN. You only have to supply your SSN for employment due to taxes. You don't even have to provide it for health insurance.

The preschool just want to use that unique number to track you., like so many other places. Telll them to use your phone number.

Since you're paying them, they have no need for your SSN. Tell them to eat rocks.

There's no need for anyone to use an SSN for identification purposes. Your name and zip code is enough to positively identify over 90% of the population. Your name and zip+4 is enough to uniquely identify virtually 100% of the population.
