Could human technology eventually create a cosmic and benevolent intelligence? Could we continue to learn and grow after our bodies die, forever? Since we've made up so many religions about this exact thing, maybe we really would like to have it?

We are approaching a singularity event in computer design.

We are now using computers to design more powerful computers. If this trend continues we will be in a cascade where the computers design a series of more and more powerful versions of themselves with less and less help from humans, until we end up with computers that are much more intelligent than a human.

And what then? How will this superior intelligence view us, it's effective ancestors? How will humanity view it? And how will we react when it can give us the answers faster than we can think of the questions? Will it want to continue to make more computers that are smarter than it is?

What's really funny is that today's "science" was yesterday's "science fiction".
