Well first off you need to understand welfare is there to help those that need help to get on their feet, although yes sadly many people abuse the system and it is wrong, some use it for the right reasons and they can't stay on welfare forever and they are only hurting themselves by not educating themselves and using the tools that are offered to them to help them become more independent. How much a person gets per week depends on their family size on how much they get.
Commenting on one of the other comments in here, I won't name, names but you do have a choice on what you make of your life. I have been a single mom for eight years and no I don't live off of daddy's money and hell no do I get supported by a man, I don't receive child support, apartment asstiance, childcare assitance etc. I realised what my responsiblites were and went out and got a job, and no I don't have a college education, I went after job, after job that paid decent until I got one. I work my a** off and support myself and my son so just because some people have a diverse opinion on welfare does not mean we have an easy ride.

In the UK the following benefits are available
Income support if a claimant unable to work because of for example being a single parent...this is £59.15 per week
Job seekers allowance for people in between jobs £59.15 per week
Incapicity benefit for people unable to work because of sickness this starts at £65 per week and after two years of claiming its £80 - This can only be claimed if enough nat ins stamp has been paid over the years by the claimant
Housing benefit and council tax benefit help with rent. Anyone can claim and their income will effect how much they get
Child benefit is paid to all who have a childfrom the date of birth until they leave full time education £18.10 per child
There are other more severe disability benefits and the amounts are paid dependent opon the disability starting at £17 per week up to £65 per week
Its a long argued debate why people should be allowed to get this help...but as you can see its not a huge income.
In my work i have seen enough to know its a few that abuse the system eg not wanting to work....as opposed to those that are simply unable to for whatever reason

In the uk every person rich or poor gets 'child benefit' until their child is 16 it's about £16 a week. Other than that I don't know how much benefits are. I think some people are entitled to them, for example people who are disabled, terminaly ill, need to give 24 hour care to a sick or disabled person. People never do a days work when they are fit amd healthy do however annoy me and many others.

Typical rant from someone who's either living off daddy's money or has a man supporting them. Some women have children and their cheating men leave them alone. They need help! They dont act entitled..... it's hard applying for and getting benefits from the government.
People like you are bigoted towards the poor and needy, I remember being raised very wealthy and my father having a drinking problem... mother left him (he was losing his mind) and raised us on welfare. We'd get snickered and laughed at while mom bust out the food stamps. I had clothes too tight, holes in them.... my mom worked at a crap job full time making $4.25 an hour and we lived in goverment housing.
You don't know what it's like to be in the situation, so dont judge. Azzholes like you made my life miserable as a child.
