Excellent question. Most people blow this off most of their lives and just live like 'everyone else' does...and find there is no going back to change once you end up in hell...
Matthew 7:13-14 13 (1 2 )"Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the road broad that leads to destruction, and those who enter through it are many. 14 How narrow the gate and constricted the road that leads to life. And those who find it are few.

The eternal life is the eternal death. There is no serious proof that we have a soul which will go on living after our death.
Death is like being deeply asleep, for me a better state that being in "paradise" which is nothing else that desire-thinking.

I don't know that my consciousness will outlive death. The short answer regarding 'me and eternity' is:
'I don't know'.
