If not, have you made any effort to learn why people are atheists?

Afterall, many of us are ex-Christians.

Although I feel that I am a good Christian person, I believe that everyone is entitled to their own beliefs and I have friends who are atheists, wiccans, etc.
I have heard their theories on the subject and I respect their answers. I prefer to believe my own religion, but would not condemn them for their beliefs.
I just had a dear friend pass away last week, and I have been struggling with my own religion (I don't plan to stop believing, I am simply angry right now). So if you had asked me that question 2 weeks ago, my answer would be no, but today...well, I am sure you understand.

I am a Christian who is an ex-atheist. I was an atheist for 20 years, and I used to go online just like the ones in this forum and tell Christians and creationists how stupid they are for believing what they do. I was wrong. Yes, I understand why they believe what they believe, but they believe it out of a sense of pride and stubbornness. "The fool says in his heart, 'There is no God'". Notice that this verse says, "in his HEART", not "in his MIND". His mind observes the evidence all around him that there IS a God, but his heart is stubborn because he was spiritually blinded in his youth - someone seared his conscience against God. There is no logical reason to be an atheist. It is simply rebellion against God - something that has been going on since the beginning of Creation.

Im an ex atheist with atheist parents. My dad and I are very close so even though I am a christian now, I understand why he thinks the way he does-and why atheists think the way they do in general...having been one for so long myself.

I have a great understanding of atheists and where they are coming from, I used to be a atheist until I had a experience with the Holy Ghost , it wasn't suppose to happen, it wasn't suppose to be real but it happened and now I know how real God is, I do understand the atheist perspective.

I can see where they are coming from. Faith is so different for each of us. We cannot even agree on faith in our own religions much less anyone else's. Looking at most churches or some people that claim to be Christian, Buddhist..etc... it is no wonder why some people either give up, or prefer to not believe anything. Would you want to look, or act like some who are complete and utter wackos? I wouldn't. That is one reason why I try to be a good example of my faith. Some people just need understanding, not verses, or condemning statements.

I used to be an atheist before but thankfully not now, 100 % believer now and the atheists here that have not converted yet are only here for one reason, to learn more about God because they are fence sitters still not sure if they want to jump in. REAL atheists like I used to be would never hang out in a place such as this that is full of religion. in their questions and answers they will deny it but that is only so their friends that see their questions an answers will not make fun of them. They will put up a very strong anti-God front but a front is all it really is.....100 % here are secretly fence sitters ..no true atheists here.....even those that say "I used to be christian" are only here because they still believe god is real but do not want to admit it

I absolutely understand where they're coming from. Christians have done some stupid things in the name of Christ. How can people who aren't of the Christian faith look on the rest of us and not see us as hypocrites, liars, and sinners who say one thing yet do the opposite, or worse yet, ignore the pain that others around us endure?

But despite how we behave, that doesn't really change the fact that God is real. Don't let the misguided actions of my brothers and sisters, myself included, confuse you from understanding that there is a higher power at work and he does have plans for you.

I wish you luck on your spiritual journey. God is willing to meet you on that walk wherever you are. And he has some hands and feet to help you out along the way if you need it.

Take care.

There are so many atheists that I doubt anyone understands where ALL of you came from, christian or not. People probably have many different reasons for being atheists, just as people have many different reasons for belonging to a religion.

There may be 1 or 2, but most of them that used to call themselves atheist and converted to christianity were probably just uninformed agnostics waiting for something.

I get the sense that something in the past of the atheists' life really affected them traumatically in regards to "religion" and that's why they, not all mind you, seem hell bent to disprove God or anything related to a higher being. Icould be wrong though.
