and start fundraising to help get awareness about the disorder to the public and to help with research, and to help other children so they wont have to suffer so much, where do you put your heart? I am told that everything you do must be to serve God and to glorify him. If I am Helping my child to help others, where does God fit in? I am doing this to help the children, not to glorify God, so in a way I am sinning right? and why would God send me to hell for it? because really everything I do is to help my fellow man, not to glorify God and put God first. I am really confused on the Christian thought process here. because I dont see how you put God in the middle of something with all these children hurting.

Cindy, you seem like a nice, thoughtful and sincere person, so I tell you this with all Christian love: if your church does not teach that helping others IS giving glory to God, then get out IMMEDIATELY and do not look back, and find yourself a real Christian church.

You and your child are in my prayers.

Some people, like the few scientists I've met who were good at their job and also practicing Christians, are able to compartmentalize their faith and their profession. Most people, however, cannot live with the hypocrisy of leading two lives and still do both things well. Unless you are one of the few who can "shift gears" between being a productive citizen and a devout Christian, I suggest you chose whichever path you find the most rewarding and perform that task very, very well. Don't feel guilty about it. If you live only to glorify God (as my mother did) you'll never be the best possible mother you can be to any child who must ultimately grow up and live in the real world. There will be time enough for spiritual pursuits after you've dealt with your responsibilities as a mother. It is impossible to devote 100% of your time and energy to one cause and still have 100% left over for the other cause. Having grown up in a household where my needs came after Jesus, I strongly suggest you devote yourself to your children until they are mature and on their own. Then, if you still feel drawn to spiritual issues, after your children no longer need their mother, you can safely devote 100% of your energy to Jesus.

If you help your child to help others, you are serving God.

Jesus said "whatsoever you do to the least of my people, you have done unto me". Therefore, if you start a fundraising campaign to promote awareness about the disorder and fund research to cure it, you will be helping everyone who had the disorder. Thus you will be helping and serving God as well. So if you do everything you can to help your child when they have a rare disorder, and to help others with the disease, you are doing exectly what God wants.

EDIT: And Julien, I don't think Cindy is making this up, she's just using this scenario as an example. Nowhere in the question did say that her child is actually suffering from a rare disorder.

Some would say that you are wrong to do what you are doing. you are interfering with God's plan for these children, after all he made them that way.

Others would say that you are showing an example of how to do god's work. By caring for your child and these other children you are showing the spirit that Jesus taught.

The first means that God is just plain cruel. He wants your child and the others to suffer.

The second is little better, your child and the others need to suffer so that you can use your free will and show how good you are. Something an omnicognizant god already knew.

Personally I find it a much more reasonable argument that there is no god. Your child is just unlucky to have this disorder. (But possibly luckier than others who are worse off).

No one will reward you after you die, for helping your child. You will just cease to exist, the same as the rest of us. Because social humans survive better than anti-social ones, you have evolved to have a desire to help your child and to help others.

What is your child's disorder? Let us know how we can help. Good luck with your efforts.

Why would God ever penalize some one for doing good? I don't think there would be any scriptural basis for this. In Romans it says
14 For when Gentiles who do not have the Law do instinctively the things of the Law, these, not having the Law, are a law to themselves, 15 in that they show the work of the Law written in their hearts, their conscience bearing witness and their thoughts alternately accusing or else defending them,
The Gentiles of course being non believers in the eyes of the Jews at the time.
Why when Jesus spent so much time saying things like ..What you do for the least..You do for me. Would he suddenly become so petty as to condemn you! I am a Christian, I am full of faults and sins and failings..I would not condemn people for sin, certainly not good deeds. What words did Jesus ever speak that would make you think He would condemn you?

You do everything has unto the Lord the Lord says that the least you do for these you you do unto me also,God knows your heart so helping other people is his heart, his heart is souls, healing, feeding the hungry, and helping the less fortunate, and you would not being doing it if he did not place that desire in your heart in the first place,so no you are not sinning, you just need to thank him for giving you that kind of heart. And you are glorifying him whether you realize it or not . Be blessed Lisa

loving others is loving God. Jesus commanded us to love our families and neighbors." What you do for the least of these you do for me." It's in the hard times that we lean on God...like a shoulder to cry on. Keep up your good fight. I am praying for your sons recovery. Where do I send my donation?

and who told you that you're going to hell for that? did God say it to you? if your Pastor said it or whoever, they got it all wrong. God knows your heart and the reason why you're doing the fundraising and i don't think you're being selfish because you're helping others.

Where does God fit in? Others can see God in you of what you do. Give your praises, thanks, and success in your fundraising to Him.

continue to be a blessing to others!

Uh, isn't helping children and attempting to better the world a form of glorifying God? Isn't that exactly what he told you to do - take care of this world and do what you can to improve it?

I'm not sure how that WOULDN'T be considered "glorifying God."
