I did few basic experiments with NI ELVIS in my school.
And I realized I missed something. It's about DMM.

What if I set the range of resistance less than actual resistance.
ex. If I set the range of resistance as 30k ohm
and the resistor is 300k ohm, what would I see in the screen?

Depends on the meter. Should either have an OR display for over range or dashes across the screen for no reading.

Besides what the answerer above says, I have also seen some meters *flash* -1999 (or whatever the maximum reading is).
