If you pray in Church then you are no better than the hypocite Jews... So, he managed to call 90% of Christians hypocrites AND insult Jews at the same time. He's good...
"And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by men. Truly, I say to you they have received their reward. But when you pray, go into your room (or closet.) and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret..." (Matthew 6:5-6 RSV).

LOL, Amen. But they are going to tell you that you are taking it out-of-context and that he didn't mean it that way. Funny, because that is what "they" do with the verses all the time.

Jesus advocates murder and death:
Jesus condemns entire cities to dreadful deaths and to the eternal torment of hell because they didn’t care for his preaching. Matthew 11:20
Jesus, whose clothes are dipped in blood, has a sharp sword sticking out of his mouth. Thus attired, he treads the winepress of the wrath of God. (The winepress is the actual press that humans shall be put into so that we may be ground up.) Revelations 19:13-15
The beast and the false prophet are cast alive into a lake of fire. The rest of us the unchosen will be killed with the sword of Jesus. “An all the fowls were filled with their flesh.” Revelations 19:20-21

You are totally misunderstanding the point of that scripture.
Jesus himself prayed... publicly ... before performing miracles, at meals etc. What he was referring to were those who ONLY said these long public prayers "to be seen by men" ...for the benefit of their HUMAN audience...to present an appearance of being superrighteous.. It wasn't about their relationship with their heavenly father.

First of all DID YOU READ WHAT JESUS SAID?? He means that we should not pray or worship for "show". The hypocrites he is speaking of were those who worshiped "so that they may be seen by men". They weren't sincere. Jesus asks us to be sincere in prayer as it is personal. The hypocrites were doing it so that they could "act" religious which is exactly what Christianity denounces!
Taking things out of context.... how original! ha

it is very important to pray in private, absolutely- but that passage does not mean we are not to pray in public places- if that were true- a lot of the book of Acts would not be in scripture- Read the second chap, of Acts for one example. All over that book it says that the church gathered together to pray. What this verse is referring to is how we should and should not pray in public- the pharisees would come and pray together and build themselves up as wonderful righteous people about put the other people who "are not considered righteous down" remember the story of the Pharisee and the Publican? The Publican cried out, in front of others, have mercy on me a sinner, and the Pharisee, said," God , I am so glad that I am not like this tax collector." When we pray together it is our attitude that He is talking about. When 2 or more are gathered in His Name, He is there among them. Public prayer is not spoken against in scripture - pride is.

You're taking the verse out of context. If you're going to quote Scripture, quote the entire applicable portion, not just part so you can twist it for your own purposes.

He was saying that we shouldn't pray just to draw attention to ourselves. Praying is something we do in reverence to God not to gain something from men for doing it.
