When I was younger, my head would twitch to one side, and my shoulders would shake for no reason often. When I turned 17, I started getting a vocal tic that sounds exactly like a certain animal. It has happened every day for over three years (it's still happening). I can often feel when the vocal tic is going to happen, almost like a sneeze or a cough feels, but sometimes it just happens suddenly. I want to go to a doctor or something to see what it is, but my parents refuse to let me do that for some reason. Does anyone think that this is Tourette's, or is it something else?

Thank you for your responses. The vocal tics started when I was 17, and I am 20 now. I'm away at college, and I would go to a doctor since I'm away from my parents, but I don't have a way to get there. Can you also suggest a way to convince my parents that I should see someone for this? The tics don't bother me (and most people think that they sound adorable), it's just the fact that my parents deny that something is happening.
Thank you again.

Sounds like classic Tourette's.

So sorry to hear your parents are ignoring this problem.

There is medication that might give you a lot of relief.

Hang in there,

p.s. When you turn 18, head straight to the neurologist.

This is definitely a medical problem. A vocal tic certainly is consistent with Tourette's syndrome. I think you should really try to convince your parents to get you some help. Is there any chance you can pursue it on your own?

Sounds like touretts. Cant you schedual a dr's appointment without your parents and go tell him and maybe he can talk to your parents for you. Tics change over time too so dont be suprised if new or different things stat to happen too.

It is possible that it is Tourette's, however, no one can tell you over the Internet. You need to see a doctor. If you parents wont let take you, then go yourself. You are 17 so you can figure something out. It is important that you seek medical treatment. Things can get worse over time if you don't.

You could have a number of preset diseases, not substantially Tourette's. You need to see a family doctor, right away. It seems you could have Tourettes. But you could also be suffering from Parkinson's or Epilepsy, it depends on what part of the body is suffering from the convulsions and when the tremors begin and set forth. You definitely need medication; if what you are saying is true. But to be sure, the doctor needs to runs some tests.

GOOD LUCK! And I will keep you in my prayers..............

It sounds like a mild case of Tourette's. My son has it.. used a couple of meds with limited success, now doesn't want / use anything...Parents usually go into denial unless it is a severe case.
