The only true religion that is pleasing to God is taking care of the orphans and widows.
I forget the chapter/verse, but it's one of only a handful of times when the NT mentions "religion."
When you consider that we're all born separated from God, our Father, we're all considered orphans. And time after time Jesus refers to his church as his bride, and considering that he died for us, we're all widows too.
The point to be made is that we need to do a better job of taking care of one another.
As long as we all have spare bedrooms and homeless people living on the streets, there's a disconnect between who we are and how we're living our lives, and how we should be living our lives and the people God wants us to be.

Actually, it's 2:17 "In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead"
1:5 says "If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him."
4:7-10 "Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Grieve, mourn, and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up."
