I despise stuffed animals actually... for a few reasons other than sanitation. They take up so much room, the kids never play with them (well, sometimes they will for a short period of time and then they are tossed aside), but they won't get rid of them willingly. My grandmother used to buy us stuffed animals all of the time and I never really did like them. I never had a problem getting rid of them, because I have never been a pack rat. My sister on the other hand.. is in her 20's and collect beanie babies and other useless junk. Don't get me wrong, toys are absolutely fine with me, but I hate stuffed animals.

Spray them with antibacterial spray and let them dry or put them in a pillow case ans wash on the gentle cycle. They will be fine. I'm nearly 25 and I still sleep with a Tigger or a Winnie the Pooh and my bf is always buying me cute new ones.

I don't like them because they look tacky...my daughter only has a few and is not thatfond of them anyway...I also think it's weird the way Americans call them Stuffed annimals....sopunds like taxidermy! In the Uk we call them Cuddly Toys.

I'm pretty neutral towards them, but appreciate they do get dusty. But the idea of washing them in a pillowcase on the gentle cycle is a good one. It would depend how much interest my child had in them, but I wouldn't discourage them if my kid loved them, and beanie baby types are pretty small.

I feel sorry for your son. My daughter has plenty of stuffed toys and I've thrown them in the washer to get clean. I also febreeze or lysol them to keep them clean. She doesn't get them dirty and 99% of them still look brand new.

The domesticated ones don't take much care but aren't very talkative, and the wild ones lack flavor and are stringy to chew. Really not something I need a lot of.

Unless ours have electronics inside, pretty much every stuffed animal goes in the washer. They don't mind. :)
