As a Catholic, when someone asks me if I have been "saved," I answer: "I am redeemed by the blood of Christ, I trust in him alone for my salvation, and, as the Bible teaches, I am working out my salvation in fear and trembling (Phil. 2:12), knowing that it is God's gift of grace that is working in me."
Fundies say all true Christians, regardless of how they live, have an absolute assurance of salvation, once they accept Jesus into their hearts as "their personal Lord and Savior." The problem is that this belief is contrary to the Bible & constant Christian teaching.
Recall this Scripture: "If we have died with him [in baptism; see Rom. 6:3-4] we shall also live with him; if we persevere we shall also reign with him" (2 Tim. 2:11-12). So, ff we do NOT persevere, we shall NOT reign with him. In other words, Christians can forfeit heaven. Jesus tells us, "He who endures to the end will be saved" (Matt. 24:13; cf. 25:31-46). Ergo, if you do not endure to the end, well........
The Bible makes it clear that Christians have a moral assurance of salvation (God will be true to his word and will grant salvation to those who have faith in Christ and are obedient to him [1 John 3:19-24]), but the Bible does NOT teach that Christians have a guarantee of heaven. There can be no absolute assurance of salvation. The Bible says, "See, then, the kindness and severity of God: severity toward those who fell, but God's kindness to you, provided you remain in his kindness, otherwise you too will be cut off" (Rom. 11:22-23; Matt. 18:21-35, 1 Cor. 15:1-2, 2 Pet. 2:20-21).
Note that this includes an important condition: "provided you remain in his kindness." It is saying that Christians can lose their salvation by throwing it away. He warns, "Whoever thinks he is standing secure should take care not to fall" (1 Cor. 10:11-12). , Paul admitted that even he could fall away: "I pummel my body and subdue it, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified" (1 Cor. 9:27). In saying this he points out that even he cannot be infallibly sure of his own present state or of his future salvation.

Again, to my Catholic Crusader friend. Either Salvation through faith in Christ is guaranteed or it is not? To add anything on our part to add to that guarantee is works!
Again, I ask, what work did the thief on the cross do? Nada, nothing,,,,only looked to Christ. Now again, don't confuse that fact that works should follow salvation with assurance.
If what the Catholic Church teaches, then some days you in, some days your out, and one can only hope that you get called home on the day you felt in.
John 1 also says, "These things I write unto you that you may KNOW you have everlasting life" not hope too, not work out, but KNOW.
Please read the works of Martin Luther, who by the way, was pretty darn good at trying to work out his own salvation. Probably better than you and I could ever do. 6 hours in prayer and confession in a monetary EVERY day..trying to work out his salvation. Until, through the word of God, he found: "The JUST shall live by Faith"
And praise God, the Word was then made available too ALL people, not just a privileged few.

Different religions have different views of being saved. I went into a baptist church with a friend, and their version of being saved was to walk on a stage, confess that they are a sinner, and ask for Gods blessing. Most of them fell to the floor (they actually had people standing beside them in anticipation of this). I am Catholic. Catholics are more quiet, believing we have been saved through Jesus' dying on the cross. You are absolutely correct in your statements about the Catholic belief. And I'll tell you this, whatever your religion is, people who point fingers and say you are not saved are judging you, and if I recall, the bible tells us to judge not others unless you judge yourself first. One nice thing about the Catholic church, you will never go into one and hear "Them damn baptists, or those horrible Presbyterians, or how awful any other religions are. But the day I went into the Baptist church with a friend, all I heard was how awful the Catholic church was from the speaker they had. It made me cringe. Jesus knows who is saved by how they live their lives and how they worship him. Don't fret, your saved and you know it. Let what the others say roll down your back, and try real hard not to judge them as they have judged you. For they know not, they just don't really know. But Jesus knows, Jesus knows. --Peace to you and yours.

It' response to Jesus not doctrine. If a person is in Christ then they are saved. It's good to know the word. Also it is not a condition of salvation to be clever. If it was I for one would not be saved.
Repent change your mind , give your heart to Jesus and respond to him. This includes constant confession to stay in fellowship. Once saved always saved. It has nothing what so ever to do with religion.

I agree with you! As catholics we are saved by drinking wine as the "Blood of Christ" we are forgiven of our sins. Jesus walks with you holds your hand, and carries you through your time of need. I always say, do not ever condemn how one believes in his or her religon, we all believe in something very common, We believe there is a "GOD" we all believe in different ways so what? who cares? Just let the son of the holy spirit into your heart and just believe. I hope you all have a good day and "GOD BLESS YOU"

Salvation is a process....past, present and future..NOT a one-time "event".
You WERE saved by Christ's passion, death and resurrection.
You are being saved by Holy Baptism and receiving His Body and Blood as Jesus said that you must ("Unless you eat of my flesh and drink of my blood you have no live in you" and "Do this, in anamnesis of me")
You will be saved at the last day, when Jesus will come again with glory to "judge both the quick and the dead"
Amen.

Think about this for those who doubt the salvation of Catholics....
If the most devout and faithful who still attend His enduring Church are not saved, what hope is there for those in protest of His Church and teaching?
If we actually did the things you claim we would agree with you that we cannot be saved, but the truth is that we do not but are true to the Word and His word.
In Christ

with gods help 24/7 can we find the narrow road that leads to his kingdom.we have to preserve to the very end of our lives,to earn our crowns of glory in heaven.the Eucharist is our manna on earth, it sustains our body and soul and guides us to be holy.when i hear from god these words: well done my son, then i will know for sure that i am saved. Jesus died for all of mankind, so that every one can be with him. as catholics we have the true faith.

Well, the problem for most catholics is that they fall back on the ritual and don't have the relationship. That certainly doesn't mean that you can't be a catholic and not have a relationship with Jesus, far from it. Some of the most devout Christians are Catholic. But as my husband, a former Catholic, and many of my friends who were or are Catholic, with the Church's emphasis on works and ritual, more people are kept from Christ than find Him.

Ignorance is bliss, I see someone here showing a website for Chick Publications the most notorious of the ignorant Catholic hate material that gets sprewed out every month in comic book form.
I had a neighbor that told us he was saved.. he didn't have to go to Church, help his neighbor or do anything else. It was a done deal. That meant no matter what selfish, lousy, miserable things he would do to his family and his friends it didn't matter cause he was saved. The Lord Jesus Christ didn't say that in any part of the Bible.. he did tell us to help our neighbor(the good Samaritan) and to do good to others(the story of Lazarus and the rich man).. how people think that saying they are saved and do nothing else for others makes no sense at all.

See all the thngs you are adding to Salvation? You are attaching stings to it. Your works are adding to the Cross.
Salvation is a FREE gift, you don't need to be fed anything but the Word of God. Sadly you have faith in traditions and rituals instead of the Blood of Jesus Christ.
Try this, next time you get gasoline for your car, dump an equal amount of water into the gas tank.
Then, let me know how far you get.
