okay so I broke up with my boyfriend, was in the other room of our apartment cuz both of our names are on the lease. I decide to call his mom to tell her that he's into drugs and spending 200 bucks a week on booze and won't pay his bills. My boyfriends cousin calls me, threateneds my life so I move out to get away from it. His mom calls me today and tells me to leave him alone cuz he can't handle it when I bother him at work and he gets all upset. I just want my money he owes me and to move on. She tells me that he's not moving out and she'll pay his rent and I pay mine to her. Or she'll file harrassment on me for bothering her poor pathetic son at work... I can't get out of the lease cuz he can't pay his bills so he has bad credit... I don't want the place back. The family cares about no one but themselves. What do I do? I don't want to have to continue to pay rent if I'm not living there but I know my ex and he'll purposley not find a room mate just to screw me over...

The cops have been invloved. called the cops after his cousin threatened me and when my ex tried to. I don't want the place back, I don't want to be in that town. The farther away I am from it the better.

Lindsay Jo you may have to go to the landlord and explain the situation. If they are not willing to allow you to break the lease then sorry to say it but you may have to put this down as a bad debt and a learning experience. As for bothering him at work and him getting upset well that's your decision, but if he is having cousins call to threaten you then there are many doors open to you. You could call the police and inform them of these threats (but lets be honest here and realize that it would probably just make things worse for you). Another option you could have though regarding this money he owes you is to take him to small claims court to try and get some of it back but this is usually a long and drawn out affair. Best of luck and sorry but you may find out that your beat as far as getting the cash off of him and have to make do until the lease ends.

Don't call him or his family. File a claim in Small Claims Court for the money he owes you. Don't worry about the harrassment suit because no one ever wins those.

If it is under your name, then kick him out. Get the cops involved.
