should the diet be full of protein? I've read that fish should be cut off from the diet. I'm confused.

No red meat, (liver cant break down the enzymes as its rich.)
Try white meats, such as chicken, fish rabbit or even some boiled riced mixed in with it. No dried foods, as they contain lot of salt and will agitate the liver more.

does your vet know why your cat has a liver problem?

cats can develop fatty liver syndrome from not eating for more than 2 days. if this is what kitty has, you need to get him to eat. anything. the goal is to get kitty eating, then worry about what to feed. sometimes you have to force feed them if you cant find a food that kitty likes right now. also, talk to your vet about an appetite stimulant called cyproheptadine.

Hi, I think it's best to call the vets and speak to a nurse seeing as he's got a liver problem,I'm surprised they didn't discuss this with you when you were there.

You need to get some food especially designed for liver problems. Such as Hill's L/D formula... or different types from Royal Canin. Contact your vet though, he or she will tell you what you need to feed him

Nothing fatty either, the liver has to break down fats.

Did you ask the vet for what he recommends?

Ask your vet and follow his guidelines. After all, he's the one with the years of schooling that is supposed to teach about this stuff.
