Yes, the Genesis myth is a "just-so" story that attempts to explain how things came to be. Eve was punished by having to give birth "in sorrow". This is supposed to be why humans have very painful childbirth, unlike many animals (it's the price of being able to walk upright).

When anesthesia was first discovered, religious hospitals refused to use in on women in labor because of this myth.

First, there was no apple. The fruit of the tree of knowledge of good an evil is unnamed, except that it's the fruit.

Second, all large headed mammals suffer pain when giving birth. My dogs yelped, my cats yelped, my horse cried, neighed, my cattle bellowed. Did Eve cause their suffering too?

Think, there is no way a human baby's head can fit through that small opening without some serious, and I mean screaming serious pain. Eve had nothing to do with it. It's physics. I had no anesthesiologist birthing two, and if I had, I would kiss her/his feet.

Birthing pain, however, fades in the memory, and the real pain comes later, in the rearing of children through their extended childhoods. No birthing pain can compare what parents have to endure -- willingly in most cases -- for their children, even those children who grow up to be excellent people. Eve had nothing to do with that either, or with my animals and their troubles and challenges raising their offspring.

Misogynistic clerics have interpreted this beautiful and profound myth to support their hatred, fear, and suppression of females. I'm amazed at how many unquestioning women buy into such blatant manipulation.

It only shows that the Bible was written by male chauvinists. Eve was blamed for offending God. The story is silly. Some animals also ate the fruits besides Eve. The fruit-eating birds are not smarter the owl. Is that a punishment, too?

I think Adam is the dumb one. I thank Eve for the brain of our species. If not for Eve, we would have been not much better than a Neanderthal man.

It also says she will bruise the serpents head and Mary gave birth to the savior, fulfilling the prophecy that Eve, thru childbirth would bring forth the savior and undue what satan/serpent had done.

My sister has four children. She suffered no pain in labour with any of them, and had no painkillers. Two of my own labours were also painless, again with no pain relief.

We are lifetime Atheists.

Sorry.
