You mean a Ruger rifle chambered in the new .338 Federal round? It should be perfect for moose.

Best.

The answer is no. The .338 Win. Mag. is considered one of the best elk, moose, and bear calibers today. I have seen many moose succesfully taken with a .338, with just enough meat damage. As for the .338 Federal some people have mentioned, it has 7mm Rem. Mag. performance. Carry that .338 Win. Mag out to that moose hunt with pride, a fine caliber for your task. Best of luck.

The 30-06 caliber using 220 grain bullet is more than capable of harvesting a Moose.** No need for a .338.**

I live in Alaska and the .338 mag. is the recommended rifle for Moose. Probably 60% of the out of state hunters use it.

.338 = fine moose gun

I remember the first time I was in the Rockies and saw a moose across a field. I'm pretty sure my mouth was hanging open in amazement at how massive these creatures are.

The .338 Win Mag was designed for North America's largest game (elk, moose, brown bear) so yes, it'll work fine on moose.

As everyone has said the .338 magnum is the ticket, and a powerful defensive weapon in bear country.
