Get yourself some #4 Hevi-shot..Best Duck shotgun loads I've used personally in 20 years. A bit on the pricey side, but 99.9% of the time they are total SKY BUSTERS when it comes to Ducks...(I hunt the Champlain region several times every year!)
Hevi-Shot is 50% Tungsten 35% Nickel and 15% Iron Alloy. When we used these last season, the majority of Ducks bagged had little or no pellets in them. As it turned out the majority of pellets went clean THRU the Ducks.......Not to mention my group made successful shots at long distances that normally we wouldn't have even tried before! Works for me!

I like number 3 but hard to find number 2 is prevelent enough. I am not sold yet on any of this Hevi-shot stuff that is selling for 3 times what steel sells for. I shoot Winchester in 3 and 1/2 inch 12 ga...and if i can find 3's i buy for early season ( smaller ducks ) and 2's for late season longer shots bigger ducks..

i use kent fast steel in #2 1 1/8 ounce i believe they go 1560...i use them from teal to goose..it is a great all around shot and i use them in 3 inch...i sometimes throw in a kent BB as my last shot but rarely...the #2's shoot great when it is calm or a heavy wind...#4's are ok when it is calm but if you get a wind over 10mph they don't work that great....i have never used hevi shot in my life and never plan to...why spen 35$ on 10 shota when i can get 50 shots for that price... i dont know what spooky is talking about the kick isn't noticable if there at all...don't choose your shell choice around kick even tho there isn't a difference....if you do buy hevi shor just remember every time you pull the trigger its like shooting 3.50 lol.....good luck this year

#4 steel is ok if you are hunting teal or other small ducks. i prefer #2 going 1550 fps. i go after medium to large sized ducks at medium to long ranges.

depending on how you like kick, anything from 5 to 2 shot will work with 2 having a harder kick.
