...and the "Ask a question" page won't recognize that category...yet I see it right there every day!!

So...R&S people....when you are in Tijuana, which is your favorite bull ring? The Old Downtown El Toreo ring... or the "Bull Ring by the Sea" (Monumental)?

I like the El Toreo, but not on the sunny side. What do you think?

Wow...I've never seen so many knee-jerk responses.

And they all think they understand what bullfighting is about.

I think you might try posting this question in a travel category.

By the way, one poster mentioned 'humane' bullfighting. I think that is referring to the Portuguese style, which has an interesting history behind it. I won't go into it here, but anyone interested can google it.

Good luck with your search, padre.

And to all you others, this was a question about a place---not a statement about a sport. Don't read between the lines.

Father K,

The only experience that I have had with bullfighting was of the Portuguese variety. Their community in Ontario Canada used to have a ring about 20 miles north of Stratford.

It was exciting, and the Bull was not injured, he lived to fight another day.

Bullfighting is banned in many countries; people taking part in such activity would be liable for terms of imprisonment for animal cruelty. "Bloodless" variations, though, are permitted and have attracted a following in California, and France. In Spain, national laws against cruelty to animals have abolished most archaic spectacles of animal cruelty, but specifically exempt bullfighting. Over time, Spanish regulations have reduced the goriness of the fight, but only for the matadors and horses, introducing the padding for picadors' horses and mandating full-fledged operating rooms in the premises. In 2004, the Barcelona city council had a symbolic vote against bullfighting, but bullfighting in Barcelona continues to this day, against the majority of public opinion. It has been estimated that 70% of the attendees at Barcelona's Monumental bullring are tourists. Several other towns in Spain have banned bullfighting.

Bullfighting has been criticized by animal rights activists as a gratuitously cruel blood sport, because they believe that animals should not be tortured, killed or abused for entertainment. The bull suffers severe stress or a slow, painful death. A number of animal rights or animal welfare activist groups undertake anti-bullfighting actions in Spain and other countries. In Spanish, opposition to bullfighting is referred to as antitaurina.

In August 2007, state-run Spanish TV cancelled live coverage of bullfights claiming that the coverage was too violent for children who might be watching, and that live coverage violated a voluntary, industry-wide code attempting to limit "sequences that are particularly crude or brutal."

I just asked a question and it worked. I see that Laura is the top person in the category - Level 6. I just clicked on the category when it showed up and it worked OK.

But when I go back to "bullfighting" there is nothing there. If I look in my Q&A and click on the question, it puts it in "Economics"

Very strange.

I guess we'll have to e-mail Laura. Since she's the top of the category.

I've only been to bullfights in Spain. Go to Madrid. It is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe and has truly great bullfighting.

The only thing I did in Tijuana was get completely drunk and get robbed. By the police. Bullfighting is about as cool as dogfighting.

Bullfighting is a cruel sport. I don't like to see any animal abused or tortured.

Odd. The category lists no questions, but nevertheless has a "top answerer".

Um ... never been to TJ, Father. Sorry, can't help you there.
