Appearance is everything... at least for the first impression. If you know you're personality is great, then work on your appearance. Tan, work out, focus on your hygiene. Even beauty-challenged people can look very presentable.
Shallow girls and their counter part, while they may not admit it, do focus a lot of appearance. And as far as the abusive-magnets, stay away from them. Obviously they're not mature enough to look for a decent man, so why bother with them. There are plenty of girls out there looking for great guys, and vice versa... the pesky tricky is to find them.
Myspace is a great way to meet people now. It's easier to be yourself online before meeting a stranger on a blinddate or just a random acquaintance at your local grocery store.
