My doctor has offered me 10 5mg Prednisone that I am supposed to take over the course of 5 days, 2 each day.
My problem is that I am 16 and my acne is just starting to clear up, I'm worried that if I start this my acne may come back.
Some of the other side effects also sound extremely unappealing. The weight gain on my face is something I just don't want.
And weight throughout my body in general is a big no-no because I'm on the wrestling team.
So, to those who have experience or know a lot about it, what do you think the chances are of me getting those side effects?
Please keep in mind that I will only be taking 10mg a day for 5 days.
Thank you.

When someone takes Prednisone long term they can have side effects like weight gain and a rounding or moon shaped face. A short term dose like yours should be no problem. My advice to you is call your doctor with any medication related questions. He can reassure you or prescribe something else if warranted.

If you take prednisone at high doses and long periods of time it will result in weight gain. I was taking it for eczema for three months at 10 mg twice a day and I gained 30lbs. You should not worry about taking it for five days at 5mg it will help your acne but when you stop taking it it will come back. Try using facial cleansers like aveeno they have a great skin care line for sensitive skin with acne. Skin probelms are a results of our bodies trying to clean itself of toxins. You should also try detox teas by yogi or go to GNC for the pills and 100% pure Aloe Vera juice. Just mix it in cranberry or pomergranate juice organic only, they help clean your system.

Clean your face daily and your body from the inside too and watch how much better you'll feel and look.

I went on that med, I gained about 5 pounds, but lost it immediately after I stopped my daily dosages. I didn't get any zits either, but I did feel a bit nauseous and had a few hallucination daydreams and (night) dreams. I think you should be fine, as long as you don't have any big wrestling matches in the near future.

the side effects usually occurs after you took the medicine in a long period of time. i was also prescribed prednisone for my asthma and i took it for a course of 10 days, eventually i did not experience these side effects except for an increase in appetite which usually causes the wt gain. just be sure to take the medicine with meals because its a stomach irritant, report to your doctor if you have feeling of itchiness, continue your exercise and just control your diet.

I wouldn't be too worried about it. The dosage is low and the time frame is so short. I'm not sure what he is prescibing this for- maybe to clear something up or to help your body stop a reaction.
But anyway, I wouldn't worry too much about it because of the low dosage and short time period, I don't think you're going to see any significant change in weight.

I have taken it many times. It always clears up my skin..that is one reason they give it for poisin ivy. You do not have to gain weight with it. Drink plenty of water at least 8 glasses a day and you should have no trouble. It does increase your appitite so when you are hungry and it is not time to eat chew sugar free gum until it is time to eat. Five days should NOT mess you up. If he gave it for asthma you MUST take it. That is serious business. Good luck, you should be fine.
