I'm 5ft 9", and I've gone from around 19 stone to 15 stone in around 4 months.

I'm eating breakfast (wheat cereal), lunch (fruit) and dinner (usually chicken or fish with potato). Also drinking only water, around 8 pints per day.

I'm doing a minimum of 30 minutes excersise per day, usually more.

Doing this I've lost 8 inches off my waistline so far (from 44" to 36")

The question is, am I losing this weight too fast? As far as I can see I'm losing weight in a healthy way, I'm not starving myself at all.

For those of us using non-British systems of measurement, one stone = 14 pounds, which means that he has lost 56 pounds in 4 months, going from 266 to 210 pounds. That's an awful lot of weight to lose in such a relatively short time.

It's not a question of "starving" yourself; you can eat tons of junk food without starving, but it won't do your body much good! It's a question of how well you eat, not how much.

As long as you are not experiencing any dizziness, exhaustion, etc, etc, etc, then you may have found a good diet/exercise regimen for yourself.

FWIW, a 250 pound friend lost about 50 pounds in just 2 months with an oatmeal-based diet and 30-min/day exercise. I, on the other hand, have tried to lose just 25 pounds in 3 months for another friend's wedding, but have failed, miserably!

Keep in mind that, although this diet and exercise regimen seems "miraculous", people, like my friend, were fairly fit to begin with, so there was no undue stress for them or "shock" to their systems. You (and everyone else!) should consult a doctor before doing anything radical, even if it's just a simple diet! More power to ya, though! :)

First of all, it is very commendable that you are taking steps to lose weight. Remember to consult with a physician before starting any fitness/weight loss program. Ideally we should lose one to two pounds per week. If you lose weight too quickly you risk serious medical complications.

If you diet too quickly, your body will not lose the weight the way you want it to. When you eat less, your body will look for ways to conserve energy; evolution has programmed us to conserve energy when body stores are depleted. So our bodies will look for fuel sources to keep the systems running and the first place the body looks is the energy stored in muscle. Once that is used up then it will go to fat deposits but not before your metabolism slows down. Also, you risk changing your blood pH if you lose the weight improperly.

You should eat a balanced diet of meats, grains, vegetables, fruits, milk, and fats. And drinking at least 8 glasses of water per day will speed up your metabolism and flush your system.

To keep the weight off you will have to make a lifestyle change; you want a healthy body for life not just the short term. Start a food journal and write down what you eat, the amounts and when you have your meals. Cut unhealthy foods from your diet. Eat five or six small meals each day. This will keep your body nourished while minimizing the urge to eat cheat foods. An added bonus to eating five or six small meals per day is that your body metabolism will actually speed up because it feels well nourished.

Taking up some form of exercise is also recommended. Even a brisk walk 30 minutes per day will improve your overall condition. If you would like to build muscle (and this is always a great way to lose body fat because muscle burns up more calories than fat) then take up a strength training regimen.

First of all congratulations! I don't think your loosing weight too fast at all. You sound like your looking after your health and dieting properly (not a fad diet like weightwatchers). I think maybe you could allow yourself more for your lunch though. Good luck, i hope you get to where you want to be!

if i have estimated correctly you have lost 20% of your total weight in 4 months. while this is admirable it seems a bit too fast. it is a fact that weight lost quickly is usually regained with interest. you might want to consider slowing down a bit.
