Our kitten is very sweet, but our big problem with her is that she cries and whines. If we lock her out of the bedroom, she will sit outside the door and cry and meow ALL NIGHT. We do not want to let her in because she will wake us up all night by pouncing on us or pawing at us.

All the training stuff we've read has said to quickly open the door and squirt her with water. We do that, and she just comes back two minutes later crying more because she's wet.

What can we do to stop this behavior?

There are a few things you could try.

1. Leave a tv or radio on, something mellow like Animal Planet or soft rock music so she doesn't feel all alone.

2. Make a place for her to sleep that is comfy with blankets and stuff and then wrap up a battery operated clock in one of the blankets. You need to get a clock with an audible tick-tock sound. It reminds kittens of their mom's heartbeat and settles them down.

3. Make sure she has plently of toys to play with throughout the day so she is ready to mellow out at the end of the day, or even if she isn't so mellow, she can at least have something to play with.

4. (and my personal favorite) let her in the bedroom with you guys so you can all sleep together. She is probably just wanting your attention and if you pet her for a little while this will probably ease her meowing and she will drift off to sleep with you guys!

Good luck!!

Animals ask for attention in different ways. The sad thing is you never know if they are hurting or not. She might seem fine to you but if she is this aggressive with getting your attention, she might be trying to tell you that something is wrong inside her. She might be in pain or she feels something is wrong and your the only one she can reach out to. Just for health reasons, have her a physical at the vet and tell them her symptoms. That isn't a normal behavior for cats so i would definately have that checked out right away. Good luck!

Hi, You have got to remember that she's a baby, she wants to be with you because she can't bare to be alone. She will soon settle down after a couple of nights if you let her in the bedroom, put her basket next your bed on the floor. I had this problem with my kitten a few months ago after letting him in the bedroom he was happy enough just to be in the same room as me.

Ignore her. Or crate her. She'll quiet down: That worked when I was training my assorted kitties. Unfortunately it doesn't any more because my husband is a softy, and they know it!
