I'm a financial advisor and currently the office is painted a very pale gray (almost white.) It's boring, but what other colors can I get away with?

In Feng Shui, reds, blues, or purples are supposed to represent wealth and prosperity. I would go with something like Sherwin Williams' "foxy" (a red) or "Manitou Blue."

I think you should do a sage green on the entire wall.... then do wide (two foot) chocolate brown hoizontal stripe around the entire room to make it look wider and more streamlined.
The horizontal stripe will make the room look MUCH larger. It will also give a richness and depth to the room.
Then add life to the room with varying sizes of green plants. Four or five from very big to very small on an accent table in the corner would look great.
Add chocolate brown leather furniture to add to the richness of the office.
Then do a sheer sweeping fabric over the window to add as much natural light to the room as possible. This could be in a very natural light beige.
( If you do not have a window, use lots of bright lights overhead and from the lower areas of the room, to give as much light as possible.)

This color scheme promises success. It gives everyone visiting your office the impression that you have great taste, a big office so of course you must be successful, and will give them a sense of calm and relaxation in your office.

Light gray, in an office, is close to white. In fact it is worse. It is a washed out decaying white. Like death. It makes people think of a sterile environment, of the colors things look as they die.... all equals a big negative overtone to your office.

You will be so surprised how different you, your clients, and your co-workers will feel when entering your office.

Make sure to select a nice big piece of wall art. I suggest a relief map of the world in brown tones. Perhaps a globe in the corner. This suggest you are worldly, not just grounded here in your area, that you have HUGE aspirations. It is another way to communicate success.

If you have a totally private office, that is, no sharing, no public view of your space, then paint whatever color you want.

If you aren't the only one who spends a lot of time in there, or if your view is on display to customers, then you can choose whatever color you want, only pick a muted enough shade that it is considered neutral.

Yellow puts people on the anxious (color of caution signs). Red is a powerful passionate color. It can either inspire confidence or anger but it won't be a wishy washy space. And green...well, it's the color of money but also a great deal of the natural world. So green is very versatile. Remember to keep your other finishes in mind. In addition to paint colors, you have paint finishes (the sheen or shininess), you have wood tones, mirrors and glass, metallics. All of them can help you create a look that is vibrant but also relaxing.

As a Financial Adviser you are wise not to subject your
clients to anything boring !

Why not something reassuring with a tinge of adventure
and excitement and hopes for the future ---something
Rose-y !

The Romans used this color all over Europe---you can
put small dabs of tints over your current "almost white"
to choose between variations of rose/pink/blue !

You might also think of using Gray (not pale)
for framing "Panels' of the Rose walls---

and one last note---all the walls in your office don't
have to be the same ---some Orchids and Ivories
would blend with the Rose !

While we're here---how can I make some money?

I'm an Interior Designer, and have done my share of offices. Typically if it's a doctors office of some sorts stay with calming tones of blues, and greens, it soothes people. Color plays a big role in emotions, if you aren't color blind. lol. If it is say a general office where you have a customer service duty, stay in the biege, cream tones that have hues of blue or green. You want to be sure that should a situation of an angry client or customer enter in the office, that not only them, but you can remain calm, cool and collected. It's amazing how colors can effect our moods. Be sure to stay away from yellow tones, or hues, they tend to make people anxious, and nervous. Red has several effects, passion, alert, can create a sense of urgentancy. Orange encourages appitite and conversation. Green is a calming centered color. Blue is a calming soothing color makes people relax. Pink, soft hues makes you sleepy. So, you get the idea. Keep it simple. Have a good time with your remodel! :)

Use neutral colors with bright color accents.
Dark woods, and light wood color accents.
Gray is a bad boring color, also is light blue. Use tope, and or Ralph Lauren green accents, with dark woods. It is very rich and it looks more expensive than what you will really will spend.
Have fun!

Tan or beige...it is suppose to be a more relaxing color. Colors are your choice...and the building owner. Watch out for bright reds or yellows....causes too much anxiety and tension.

Most any colour will work if it is done right. Stick w/ pastels for most colours. Neutral tones can be stronger but nothing too dark or bright. Personally I prefer Blues or Greens, But that is me.

I would go with a very light blue. Use a semi gloss to take advantage of light and for ease of cleaning.
