No... police can use any means they want to enforce traffic laws. They can hide, dress up as construction workers, use planes, use pick up trucks.. basically anything they want to enforce the law.
Also, the old myth that they must be visible at night with their parking lights on is completely untrue. And as far as what he said to you there may or may not have been. What the officer told you as the reason being there has nothing to do with you speeding and getting caught.
There may have been bad crashes there you just didn't find... or she was just trying to get the point across even more that the speed limit is there to keep you and everyone else alive!

So by your own admission you were breaking the law.
Even if it was an 'illegal' trap, your defence in a Court would be futile.
In the UK, there is no such thing as an Illegal speed trap.
Also, how would you check the fatility stats on a paice of road???
Speed limits are put there for a reason - break them and you endanger peoples lives - get caught then pay the price.

Just because you don't see the police car doesn't make it a "trap". If they somehow entice you into speeding and then give you a ticket, that's illegal. But if they just hide and wait for someone to speed on their own, I see nothing wrong with it.

If the speed limit is posted, there is nothing illegal about it. It is not illegal for police to conceal themselves while monitoring the speed of passing vehicles. The truth of whether or not people have been killed in that particular spot is irrelevant to the matter. You were speeding and you were caught, end of story.

advise your your govt to follow indian example for checking the speeding .
1. Make roads so bad u can not drive more 40
2. In additions put road or speed breaker /humps on the road so that if vehicles crossing with over speed breakes in to pieces. Pieces will fly in all directions warning other motorists of looming danger
The design of humps can be improved so that speed breakers can be dsdignated as axle breakers

Yes speed traps are illegal. But what you describe is not a speed trap. Speed traps are defined in the vehicle code in CA. I don't know if every state has them, but I have a feeling they would have one form or another of them.

no remember if that's interior the Calif. state site visitors regulation then that's a leg. regulation. so i could examine the actual enforcement e book.. In AZ we call it the ARS or Arizona Revised Statue e book. ensure you have the magnificent language interior the e book. As a ways a suing it might desire to be somebody foundation, on the grounds that some would desire to plea in charge. yet Calif like maximum different state have a software of para-legals and would provide you unfastened suggestion.

If you saw her she wasn't hiding and it wasn't a speed trap. She would have to be completely concealed and no where in sight.
You got busted. Pay for it.
