Age doesn't really matter all that much (as opposed to renting a car) all you need to have is a valid credit or debit card that will cover the amount used as a security deposit for the room (usually between $125.00-$200.00).
You don't have to use a debit/credit card to pay for the room, just for the deposit. It ensures that the Hotel will be covered in the event that anything is broken or ordered by the occupant of the room.

I think they just rent them. ;-)
In the real world it may depend on the hotel, but, I assume you need to be 18. I know when we were 17 a bunch of us rented a few rooms side by side for a party after our Prom, but, I not think they really paid attention to a birth date, just the cash on the table.

It depends on the motel, however my guess is 21.

18. Although sometimes they require you to be 21. It depends on the hotel.

Twenty one is usually the norm, some states it is 18 years old.
Most need a credit card.
