PLEASE LOOK AT ALL OF THESE AND ALL OF THE INFORMATION. i am not good with cameras at all. BEST ANSWER GETS 10 POINTS!!!

i want a camera that takes good pictures, has a decent battery life, and will last me a while. i will be going to college in fall 2008 and i am planning on purchasing a camera for xmas this year.

please help me out. i have no idea what camera stuff means!!!

If you click on the green square by my name, you'll find a bunch of links in my profile information. Two of those are for Steve's Digicams and DPReview. Those are the best camera review sites on the internet. They should list most (if not all) of the models you're considering, complete with the specs, sample pictures, and a separate page with their conclusions (including all the pros and cons of each camera).

Not having done the research myself, I'd lean towards the Canon. There's generally not a lot of difference when you look at the prints from various compact cameras, but Nikon point & shoots are often a bit weak (although I'm a big fan of their dSLR cameras and use one myself) whereas Canon is strong across the board. I suspect the A550 will be the camera to beat.

None of the above. I didn't see a camera there that's a good deal for the money. Here's a better idea: Buy a Fujifilm Finepix F10. It's only $150 and a lot better than any of those.
